Apologies for the late DFR, I was laid up sick all night last night. And so hopefully this with be comprehensible. If not, my apologies.
Let’s do this.
Memphis 5, Tacoma 1
Adam Ottavino spun a gem with 5 strikeouts and 0 walks in 7 innings. The only hit he gave up was a solo HR.
Rich Hill, Oneli Perez and Fernando Salas finished the game for Memphis.
Amaury Cazana had 2 hits and an RBI.
Bryan Anderson had a 2 run HR from the DH spot.
Ty Green had a double, walk and run. However, he was picked off and caught stealing both times on the basepaths.
Springfield 7, Arkansas 6
Gary Daley was wild again giving up 5 runs (2 earned) in 3 innings with 5 walks and 6 hits allowed. He also had a wild pitch and an error.
Jason Buursma stranded Daley’s one running and gave up 1 run in his 3 innings.
Matt Meyer struck out 4 in 2 innings.
Blake King took the win with 2 Ks in his inning.
Matt Carpenter was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs.
Curt Smith was the same but with a triple instead of a double.
Aaron Miles drew 3 walks.
Aaron Luna and Daryl Jones both had 2 hits. Jones had 2 errors however.
David DeJesus had a double.
Palm Beach 6, Brevard County 2
Richard Castillo danced around 6 hits and a walk in 6 innings to give up only 1 unearned run. He struck out 2.
Ramon Delgado also gave up an unearned run in his .2 of an inning
Matt Frevert struck out 2 in 1.1 innings.
David Carpenter finished off the game with a strikeout in 1 inning.
Xavier Scruggs had a solo HR.
Richard Racobaldo had 2 hits.
Tony Cruz and Tommy Pham each had doubles.
Devin Sheppard had a triple.
Quad Cities 3, Cedar Rapids 10
Jorge Rondon has been awesome this year, but he didn’t make it out of the first in this outing. He gave up 7 runs, only 2 of which were earned. He walked 3 and struck out 0. Somehow he gave up all those runs and only allowed 2 hits.
Michael Blazek pitched 4 innings of shutout ball.
The rest of the pitchers helped end the blowout.
Jason Stidham had 3 hits.
Niko Vasquez had a double.
CJ Beatty was 1-1 with 3 walks.

Who put Kryptonite in Matt Adams’ Wheaties?
David Carpenter is starting to show some potential.
Good to see Jason Buursma in Springfield, the thought of a submariner in our bullpen is intriging.
Really bad day on the basepaths for the org. but nice to see Ottavino have a very strong start
Also Disspointed in Daley the last few starts have been bad for him……before that he had been having a really good year and had earned back prospect status.
I’m not sure why, but when a runner gets picked off, MiLB.com reports it as both a caught stealing and a pick off. When looking at the re-cap, Tyler Greene was only picked off (or was caught stealing) once. He came around to score after his double.
I was about the say the same thing George, I had originally read the box score as him being picked off and caught stealing yesterday when I mentioned it at VEB. MiLB is just weird.
Interesting — the organization is doing well enough from the standpoint of W/L record, yet with absolutely nobody standing out as a big-time prospect. I am completely unable to find anyone in this report, or pretty well any other so far this year, who makes me say “wow, I didn’t know that guy was so good.” What’s the best way for the organization to make use of a talent pool like that?
Any idea who will be starting the Monday (5/24/10) game for Springfield? My firm is taking us all to the game in Tulsa’s new stadium. Afternoon game, should be fun.
Last year Frevert had an ERA in the ones at QC with a WHIP under 1 and 4-1 K-BB ratio. This year he’s got an ERA in the ones at PB with a WHIP under 1 and a 4-1 K-BB ratio. He’ll be 23 for the remainder of this season—should he be moved up to Springfield at the half-way point?
outstanding start for Ottavino..he has 35 strikeouts now to 7 walks..very impressive
@ SoonerFanTU
If the Cards follow their “rotation” order it should be David Kopp.
@shaneo69:
PB has at least 3 relievers that need to move up this year. Frevert, Carpenter (doing OK (not as good as the others) but he’ll be 25 soon) and Delgado who has a 0.57 ERA and is also 23. Springfield is full and gets fuller when Samuel comes off the DL. A lot of competition for few spots. Before the Spring I’d have bet a lot that Eager would have been gone but he has pitched well. The guy really on the bubble in my opinion is Hearne at Memphis. He is really struggling.
Gorgen just left the game at Springfield with pain in his elbow, hopefully nothing serious
@Gruntosaurus: Miller, Kelly, Jackson, Rondon, Schneider, Fornataro, Calhoun have begun well at QC. Shepherd and Bogany have ML bods and have made it to PB, where Garcia has made strides. Kopp is resurrecting himself behind Gorgen at AA, where Sanchez looks good. Walters, Anderson, Greene, Ottavino are improving at AAA, while Lynn and Dickson have begun well. There are not high profile prospects save Miller, but some progress is being made.
