With draft day on Monday, the experts are putting out their latest mock drafts to give us plenty to speculate on over the weekend.

  • Keith Law is sticking to his guns and has the Cardinals down for Stetson Allie. (Insider)
  • Andy Seiler amens Law’s Allie prediction.
  • Jim Callis also is staying with his Brandon Workman pick. (subscription)
  • David Rawnsley of PGCrosschecker.com concurs with Callis: Workman.
  • Kevin Goldstein has the Cardinals taking OF/RHP Brett Eibner, one of my personal favorites, but I know not everyone is quite as high on him as I am.
  • Frankie Piliere has the Cardinals down for Matt Harvey, although it sounds like the Mets might be taking him at #7.
  • Jonathan Mayo has Christian Colon of Cal State Fullerton slipping right into the Cardinals’ clutches at 25.

Apparently Yasmani Grandal is asking for Buster Posey money, so there’s an off chance he could slip to the Cardinals. That would be sweeeet.

I think they’re going to draft Sheltby Millavinozma, if you ask me.

John Sickels has the Cardinals taking Kolbrin Vitek.: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/6/4/1500248/final-mock-draft

  2. Andrew says:

Grandel would be nice but what is the use of a fast moving catcher in our system when we have Yadi, unless we don’t resign him

  3. Clark says:

I was hoping that Bryce Harper would fall to 25. I’m not sure that would happen if he broke every bone in his body.

  4. erik says:

@Andrew: It could turn into another Brett Wallace situation, but is that really so bad?

  5. andrew says:

Not really but it doesn’t address the lack of top end talent in our system. Plus if we get him it would probably be to trade for a known commodity and with 2 big contracts for 7 years (I hope we sign Albert) we may not have money to pay another big name guy. I don’t see prospect swapping very much either though I wouldn’t be against it. Grandel would be an interesting “problem” to have.

  6. VolsnCards5 says:

I don’t think you need to worry about Grandal…Fanhouse is reporting he already has a deal in place with Kansas City…so he won’t make it past 4

  7. Anderw says:

I heard Grandel strong at 4 but that was a few months ago and thought that kind of fell through.

  8. Karmaloop says:

Not a fan of Workman or Eibner. Right now, my list consists of Cole, Wilson, Allie, and O’Conner.

  9. Shanky says:

Have to agree with Karmaloop on this one. A pretty weak draft IMO, so might as well cross your fingers and take a boom/bust h.s. pick.

  10. HL says:

What I think? I think that most of these names are made up by Keith Law and everyone else just believes that these are real people.

  11. jjray says:

@HL: I have suspected for some time that Keith Law is the Wizard of Oz, lurking behind the curtain. Well said HL. This must mean that TLR is Dorothy and Aaron Miles is Toto. It all makes sense now.

  12. jws003 says:

Eibner hit 3 HR’s yesterday in Arkansas’s regional game against Grambling St. He also scored from 2nd after tagging up on a ball hit to deep centerfield. I’ve seen him play 20+ times this year and he has all the tools to be an All-Star outfielder..

  13. Vision says:

Ok, Law has us taking Solis, but says we’re high on Cole as well. Says we’re NOT high on Allie now.

Baseball America has us taking Christian Colon (whom they love at #7 overall prospect).

Seeing James Paxton a few times as well, but the two sources above are probably the most in tune outside of MLB Network.
