It’s a clean sweep for the organization tonight including impressive pitching performance at AA and some high flyin’ offense in the Quad Cities.

Memphis 7, Oklahoma City 3

  • Jim Rapoport was 3-for-5.
  • Tyler Greene was 2-for-5.
  • Allen Craig was 2-for-5 with a double. Craig is hitting for average in Memphis but his power numbers still haven’t returned to where they’d be ideally.
  • Bryan Anderson was 3-for-4.
  • Donovan Solano was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
  • Brandon Dickson threw 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 walks for 2 ER. He struck out 6 with his usually high groundball rate.
  • Pete Parise tossed 1.1 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
  • Fernando Salas struckout the last two batters to end the game.

Springfield 9, Corpus Christi 0

  • The lead item here is Brian Broderick tossing a 2-hit complete game. He struck out 5 and needed just 97 pitches. Quite an impressive outing.
  • Curt Smith brought the firepower going 3-for-5 with a pair of homeruns and a double.
  • Aaron Luna was 3-for-5 with a double.
  • Charles Cutler was 2-for-4 with a double.

Palm Beach 4, Clearwater 3

  • Xavier Scruggs was 2-for-4 with a double and a HR.
  • Nick Derba was 3-for-4 with a double and a HR.
  • Scott McGregor tossed 5 innings allowing 4 hits. The only ER came on a solo home run.
  • David Carpenter picked up a save with a scoreless 9th.

  1. Andrew says:

Was this Brodericks first ever AA game? I know he’s been at PB this year. First start at a higher level? In a hitters league? Wow.

  2. Andrew says:

On another note is Ryde Rodriquez finally living up to his potential? He seems to be in the DFR everyday.

  3. VolsnCards5 says:

wow, that is a dominant performance by broderick…13-8 GB/FB isn’t great, but its pretty good…what is his stuff like? does he have a legit chance at the majors

  4. Jeff Roman says:

Also Matias pitched another 3 innings in the DSL today. 3 Ks and 3 walks.

  5. nmstar says:

@Andrew: Ryde is still posting a OPS well below 700 so he has a ways to go. Niko, though, is bucking for a second half promotion if he keeps hitting like this. Tyler Greene is smoking hot. It’s too bad he is being blocked by Aaron Miles.

  6. Jeffery says:

@Andrew: Broderick was at Springfield last year 0-5 in 7 games. This was his second start this year. First start he went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs. Hopefully this starts a turn around.

  7. pitch and hit says:

    @VolsnCards5:

I think he spent a little time in AA end of last year. Not sure, but could be he used a lot of breaking stuff, but what does it matter, he got the job done, a badly needed win and gave the bull pen a day off.
    Congrats to him.

  8. Gruntosaurus says:

Joe Kelly is certainly looking good, at least statistically. What does he throw?

  9. erik says:

@Gruntosaurus: I believe I’ve read that he throws 92-94 mph fastball, four and two seam, and a slider.

  10. Vision says:

Joe Kelly was always thought to be a reliever, but he’s doing well in the rotation. In the bullpen, he was a “velocity” guy hitting the upper 90′s. He’s takena few ticks off the fastball and seems to be a groundball machine with a little more run and sink now.

He’s got a nice, large frame, and a great arm. Looks to have a bright future, and might need to be challenged in the second half.

  11. Grant says:

    @Vision:
“Nice, large frame”? Kelly’s frame is far from large. He’s not a big guy at all.

I agree with the rest of your comments though. Kelly has become quite an exciting prospect.
