Baseball Beginnings:

Right-hander Cesar Aguilar (AB Miller HS) pitched at 85-87 and possesses hips and thighs that could help him generate more power in the future.

Round 15 – Geoffrey Klein, C

Santa Clara University, CA

Baseball America:

Santa Clara’s Geoff Klein is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound lefthanded-hitting catcher who has hit for average and shown a knack for driving in runs, while flashing power. His defense needs work but has improved since he stepped into a starter’s role after an injury to Tommy Medica last spring.

Round 17 – Coderius Dodd, RF
6′ 2″  230lbs  2/21/1992
North Side HS, TN

MLB Draft Tracker: Video

Baseball America:

Massive first baseman Corderious Dodd [...] being scouted as heavily as any position players in the state. A Walters State JC recruit, Dodd has the arm strength to possibly move to the outfield, but at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, it will be tough for him to play anything but first base. He also pitches, but that’s not why he was crosschecked. He has big raw power and good bat speed, making him the state’s most interesting hitter on the prep side.

[AZ Snap Take: Love the swing mechanics here. Gets a bit too much of an uppercut but the hands. . . o the hands are right where they should be.]

Jackson Sun:

He said he would sign if offered a signing bonus of at least $150,000.

I’m 95% certain that Corderius Dodd was a camper of mine when I worked at a church camp in Tennessee in 2003. I had a lot of campers between 2003-2005 and he is one of a handful of kids that really stick out to me. He had a rough childhood, but was adopted by a really good lady. If this is the same kid, and he is anything like he was when he was 11, then the Cards drafted a great kid in the 17th round of the 2010 draft. I will be following him more closely now than any other of our prospects. Good luck Corderius!!!

  2. Lou Schuler says:

This is like a Phillies draft, with all these big, strong, athletic kids. If one Domonic Brown equivalent emerges from the later rounds, it will be one hell of a good draft for the Cards.

  3. rydeshelby says:

    13: Walsh is a switch hitting 2B.
14: Aguilar could become a Lance Lynn, big bod.
15: Klein is another left swinging catcher, like Cutler, Anderson, and the 4th rounder. Tall for a catcher.
16: Love Anthony Bryant, big lad, swings left. Luhnow said he runs track and is being recruited by USC. Could be a tough sign, but he’s a Dominic Brown candidate allright.
17: Enough already, show Corderious the $150,000 and lets rock.

    Typos or freaks? 18: 275 lbs? 19: 5’1″?

  4. rydeshelby says:

    They are typos: 175 lbs & 5’11″.

  5. Andrew says:

Looks like we drafted someone with a Bo Jackson athlete in Anthony Bryant. Could be a very interesting project for the farm system.

  6. cariocacardinal says:

Word is Bryant and Dodd have signed!

  7. Andrew says:

Yea saw a tweet rumoring that Biestra, our 34th round guy Dodd and Bryant were going to sign.

  8. Andrew says:

    Bryant and Dodd are signed.

  9. Vision says:

Nice to hear Bryant signed…that adds some tools to our shed.

  10. Andrew says:

Haha…I like how you said that. Looking more into Williams Jr is pretty exciting. He really needs to work on his swing but he should be in GCL soon.

  11. JC says:

Any of you guys have a link on the rumors of Bryant, Dodd and Biestra signing? I can’t seem to find info on this anywhere.

  12. cariocacardinal says:

@JC: I believe Luhnow mentioned it on a Sunday radio show (KTRS?). There may have been a Luhnow tweet as well.
