Baseball America has the signed draftees for the Cardinals. So, check out this link at Baseball America for the players in bold that the Cardinals have signed. Since it is Baseball America, they update it frequently.
To the DFR!
Memphis 2, Nashville 1 (Game 1)
- Brandon Dickson did his thing over 6 innings. He allowed 1 unearned run on 10 hits, striking out 6 and walking 2. All 8 of his outs in play were on groundouts. Can anyone who was at tonight’s game give us a reading on where Dickson was sitting with his velocity?
- Rich Rundles struck out 2 and walked 1 in a no hit inning.
- Matt Scherer got the win and Josh Kinney got the save.
- Ruben Gotay was 3-4 with a double and a HR. Gotay hit the go-ahead HR in the top of the 9th.
- Tyler Greene, Allen Craig and James Rapoport each had 1 hit each.
Memphis 3, Nashville 8 (Game 2 – 7 innings )
- Oneli Perez is on the bump for the Redbirds and he has already given up 4 runs in 2.2 innings.
- Andrew Brown (the pitcher) gave up 3 more runs in 2 innings.
- Jon Jay and Ruben Gotay each have two hits.
- Allen Craig had a HR and Joe Mather had a double.
Springfield 6, Regular Arkansas 4
- Brian Broderick got the nod for the Cardinals and allowed 3 runs over 4.1 innings. He struck out 5 and walked 2.
- Jason Buursma came in for Broderick and vultured the W with 2.2 innings of no hit ball.
- Blake King filled up the scoresheet in his inning with 2 hits, 1 run, 2 Ks and a balk.
- Adam Reifer continues to quietly go about his business, picking up another save with 1 K in a no hit 9th.
- The Cardinals probably should change their name to the “Boom Kings” as 4 players hit HRs.
- Those players were: Adron Chambers (2-4 with a double), Tony Cruz (3-5), Aaron Luna (2-4) and Matt Carpenter (2-5)
- Daryl Jones went 3-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base. More of that please.
- Richard Castillo only went 3 innings giving up 4 runs before giving the game over to the pen.
- Jared Bradford gave up 6 hits in only 2.1 innings.
- Joel Pichardo got credited with a hold for stranding the 2 runners he inherited from Bradford. He did however give up 3 runs (1 earned). The bright light in his line was 4 Ks to 0 walks.
- Tyler Norrick was called on with the bases loaded from Pichardo and allowed 2 of the 3 to score, getting the blown save even though his line looks unscathed. He and David Carpenter finished off the game.
- Tommy Pham was 4 phor 4. I seem to remember his name for some reason. He had 2 doubles, and RBI and a walk. He also had a stolen base.
- Richard Racobaldo has been finding his way into the DFR of late and he does it again with a 4-5 night with a stolen base.
- Jermaine Curtis had 2 singles and 3 RBI.
- Sleeper alert! Justin Smith the guy with the very anonymous name started for QC and gave up 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks over 4 innings. He struck out 5.
- Joe Kelly got the win with 2.2 wild, but ultimately shutout effective innings. He walked 5(!) and struck out 2.
- Daniel Calhoun and Aaron Terry finished the game with shutout appearances.
- Edgar Lara hit a 3-run HR for his only hit of the night.
- Freddy Parejo had a single and a 2 run HR.
- Ryde Rodriquez and Niko Vasquez both had 2 hits.
Gold star if you have made it this far!

I just want to call Packy Kevin Spacey. He really looks like him in disguise.
BA has Reggie Williams as signed for 125,000.
Bibona and Lyons are college seniors. If they want to try pro ball, they need to take whatever dollars are given.
Dodd signed. He became unsigned.
Gotay OPS’d .886 in May and is at .969 for June. Miles is in STL because?
Scruggs 0 for his last 21 (still OPSing .844 though) but goes 3-4 in the middle of that during the all-star game.
Dodd said he would sign for 150,000. Thats probably the hold up not sure you give a 17th round player that amount of money. He does have raw power but he seems too big to be a baseball player and his swing look incredibly bad at times. Glad Williams signed. We got some big time speed in our system now. Williams was thought to be faster than Levon Washington in the 2009 draft.
Presumably Blair and Swagerty (not to mention Cox) won’t be signing anything until the college playoffs are done, but what’s the prognosis on Jenkins?
Jenkins said he was going to take the summer off and decide what he wants to do. He’s leaning heavily towards baseball and he will get over slot but not by money so it won’t be an issue of not being ok’d until the deadline. I just think he wants to take the summer off and relax.
so we haven’t signed dodd? or did he sign and then renig? i have special interest in him…i’m pretty sure he was a camper of mine at a church camp for “under-privelaged kids in 2003
Doesn’t seem like he reniged just that there was a miscommunication between the FO and Luhnow about who has signed. He wants 150k and I dont’ think he gets that if Williams at 10 got 125.
RE: Dickson … I haven’t been able to make it to a game yet this season, so they may have upgraded a little, but Nashville’s stadium doesn’t have a radar gun. It’s a pretty bad stadium and the city needs to get a new one built if they want to keep AAA baseball here.
@Andrew:
Don’t get this, he had to have indicated to teams he would go pro or they wouldn’t have taken him so early. Taking the summer off doesn’t help in your pro career. If it’s from being burned out, the organizations understand that, give you a few relief innings to help you stay sharp. While you are sitting back and relaxing you are getting behind.
Players hold out when they want more than willing to offer, then they go play ball to prove they are worth what they want or they have injury issues and afraid to go through a complete physical. Telling a team you need the summer off doesn’t show you are serious, the cardinals will walk before he does.
@pitch and hit: Shelby Miller basically took the entire summer off last year…i think this will be a similar situation
@pitch and hit:
The guy is a 3 sports athlete and if he gets over slot he won’t be able to sign until the deadline anyway. Taking the summer off is combining the leverage possibilty going to college with waiting to be ready to play. If you go to http://www.cardinalbestlinks.com i believe and scroll way down to the day or two after draft day i they posted a real good article and interview with Jenkins. I think Jenkins is AS signable at Blair and Swagerty. Its why we choose him and not Allie or Cole at 50. Luhnow said Jenkins at 50 wasn’t the consensus pick but its a good one and we got a guy they wanted.
he’ll be allowed to sign for over slot before deadline day because (i’m pretty sure) he’ll be viewed as a “two-sport player” and so his bonus will be able to be pro-rated over the course of the contract, thus bringing the present day value of the contract down closer to slot … tim beckham signed for overslot a couple years ago before the deadline.
Here’s todays BA limk on signings
http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/2010xteam.php?team=1019
Sanchez has been activated in Springfield and Matt Meyer has been released per Kary Booher tweet
per Callis on twitter: Rumor right before draft was $3.5 million. We’ll see. @wadeyo: is Tyrell Jenkins a tough sign for STL? looking much over slot?
@Wade:
Not to sound bad but if a player is worth it whats stopping the team from signing the guy other than being cheap. If you want to improve the talent in your system you sign the guys. I’m not saying offer a guy $30M like in the case of Chapman. We are talking about a couple hundred thousand to a milion dollars difference here. Surely it doesn’t amount to the $120 million mistake the Cards made by signing Matt Holliday to a 7 year deal.
IF the Cardinals can somehow sign all of Jenkins, Wilson, and Cox, this will have been an incredible draft; however, Jenkins and Cox is probably asking for enough right there.
@Pierce:
I agree… just sign the guys. If Wilson goes to college the Cards will not get a shot at him again. We are talking about signing a player with the potential of Mike Stanton or Aramis Ramirez here.
Some Cards stuff in Callis’ chat today:
Elvis (Memphis): In terms of percentages, what are the chances the Cards have to sign Z. Cox? T. Jenkins? A. Wilson?
Jim Callis: I’d be stunned if they don’t get Cox signed. Jenkins is 50-50, and that may be pessimistic. I’d be stunned if they do sign Wilson.
Doug (Fountain Valley, CA): Is Zack Cox the next Brett Wallace? Left handed mashers with no real defensive home?
Jim Callis: I think he has more raw power than Wallace and can stay at third base.
I don’t agree with Jenkins everything I”ve read including his interviews it seems like he’s committed to baseball. He may be trying to use football as leverage but I doubt he’s a difficult sign. I don’t see why people say Wilson is almost an impossible sign. There is no number in public but the kid doesn’t even have an advisor other than his parents. They aren’t leaking info what I do know though is before the draft his parents were backing down and letting the public know that Stanford wasn’t a done deal already. They it seems they thought they were playing the Stanford card too strong and worried he weasn’t going to be drafted at all. Why would they do this if there wasn’t some chance he wanted to play pro ball. I’ve also posted an interview Wilson did on May 12 2010, if you read it really seems he’s 50/50 on signing. I think people are saying he’s unsignable because one expert says it and its easier to follow especially when his camp has been so tight lipped.
I don’t understand what the deal is with Jenkins…this guy is a total project. He is going to take the money and sign. He is going to spend the majority of next year in extended spring training and then get a lot of time at JC. There is no pressure to sign him because he doesn’t have any place to go this year.
Don’t think he’s a total project. He’s alot more refined than most many high school pitchers. I’m not worried about rushing Jenkins though, let him take the summer off.
@Birds on The Bats: Difference of a couple hundred thousand? I’m pretty sure slot for the 50th pick is roughly 1 mil and Callis says 3.5 mil was floated as his number. That’s a big difference. That said, I don’t think he gets any where near 3.5 and ends up signing for maybe around 1 to 1.2
