In this episode our intrepid robot protagonist is thwarted by Microsoft Vista’s cunning subversion of a USB Wifi network adapter on the robot’s desktop computer. But never fear! The robot has sidestepped the issue — though he took the time to issue loud four letter words to the heavens — with the use of his new laptop. Portable computing with a built in wireless adapter for the win!
- Tyler Greene was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks. Greene’s posting a .832 OPS. It’s hard to condemn his work at Memphis much. If there’s one thing I’d point to that’s concerning, it is, unsurprisingly, the strikeout rate.
- Daniel Descalso who has had a very tepid season was 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Bryan Anderson was 1-for-4 with a HR. So hard to know if this is him “developing” or an aberrant power spike.
- Ruben Gotay and Jim Rapoport were both 2-for-4 with a double.
- Brandon Dickson lasted 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs (2 earned). He struck out 4 and walked 1.
- Fernando Salas was called in to preserve the lead in the 9th. He struck out the side.
- Steve Hill was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a pair of walks. Hill’s posting a .867 OPS this season. Any evaluation of him as a prospect rests largely on whether or not the analyst thinks he can stick at catcher.
- Curt Smith fell a single short of the cycle during his 3-for-5 effort.
- Daryl Jones was 2-for-4 with a double.
- Mark Diapoules failed to make it out of the first allowing 4 runs and retiring just one batter.
- Adam Reifer and Francisco Samuel both appeared in the game with mixed results. It was a high scoring affair on both sides leaving no one unscathed.
- Chris Swauger was 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Domnit Bolivar went yard.
- Richard Castillo went 5 innings allowing 9 hits and 5 ER. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Castillo has stalled badly in Palm Beach with just 42 strikeouts against 35 walks in over 70 innings of work.
- Ryan Jackson was 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Jason Stidham was 0-for-2 but walked three times.
- Matt Adams was 3-for-5 with a HR and a game winning, walkoff, three run double in the 9th.
- CJ Beatty was 3-for-4.
- Jorge Rondon got the start allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 3.
- Aaron Terry allowed 1 hit in 1.1 IP striking out 3.
- Nick Longmire fans can continue to swoon. He went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk for good measure.
- Joey Bergman was 2-for-5.
- Alan Ahmady was 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Mike O’Neill, 2010 draftee Round 31, was 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
- Anthony Ferrara went 5 innings allowing 2 ER on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 2.
- Matt North, current owner of a 40.50 ERA, took the loss allowing 7 runs (3 earned).
- University of Hawaii product Greg Garcia was 2-for-5.
- David Medina, 1B, was 3-for-4.
- Roberto Reyes, RF, was 2-for-4 with a triple.
- Travis Tartamella, C, was 3-for-4 with a double.
- A solid outing from Boone Whiting the RHP out of Centenary who tossed 5 innings. He walked 0 and struck out 7. He was touched up for 7 hits and 3 runs.
- Jeff Nadeau took the loss allowing an unearned run on 2 hits in 3 innings of work. He struck out 3.

Another good start by Ferrera, If he continues what he’s doing how long before we see him in Quad Cities?
Also what happened to hitter Andrew Brown with Springfield. Haven’t heard from him in awhile.
who looks like the better prospect, longmire or stidham (assuming i have the right name – really fast toolsy guy at QC)?
You have the wrong guy Stidham isn’t a really fast toolsy guy. He is a solid second baseman with some hitting talent. He’s the vet and leader of the QC team. You may be refering to Michael Swinson of QC who is probably the fastest guy in the organizaton and very toolsy.
@Andrew: yes, that’s the fella – swinson. sorry, i’m terrible on names – forget some of the cards themselves, but i knew it began with an s. so anyway, for anyone who’s seen them or has some knowledge on the matter – swinson or longmire?
Brown is on the DL since June 9th. Oblique injury.
I have knowledge of Swinson. Saw him play in a series this year. He’s 6’3 about 180 he absolutely flies. Has an average arm which works in CF and can obviously cover alot of ground. He has some pop in his bat and is lean and will develop more power as he matures. As of right now he hits the ball hard the series I saw him hit a line drive homerun and also bullet off the wall for a 2b. His manager says he has the most tools in the organization. In addition to t his what I like about him is he’s 100 percent hustle all the time. With his speed he knows that it causes the infields to have to run and may result in him beating out a throw or an error so he runs full out everytime he hits the ball. He also accelerates really quickly. Longmire I have no clue about.
Brown to be returning soon, I also think that Springfield’s linup and starting rotation will most likely return to what it was before the break as well.
I for one hope Kopp sticks in Memphis. He’s very talented and we should see what he can do in AAA
@Andrew: I could be wrong but I thought Kopp had already been sent back to AA. I agree, though – I think Kopp has a good chance to make it the big leagues, he just has to keep developing
What happened with Kopp is they were going to send him down but we released Rich Hill so they decided to keep Kopp in Memphis.
@pitch and hit: what will they do with the rotation? with kulik and fick and kopp? diapoules struggled but mcgregor has pitcher well.
Change of subject…anybody know of Sam Freeman’s rehab and when he is expected to start throwing again?
@Andrew:
Hmm. Somehow the release of Rich Hill somehow eluded me.
I found out about it on thecardinalnation.com
@Dan in Haiti: I’d bet money you wont see Freeman this year. He probably wont even throw off a mound until after the season is over. I’d say he’s even doubtful to start next season on an active roster.
@Andrew:
There was no indication as of yet that Kopp would be sent down, it was just a paperwork move to get Shorey back in the rotation then Hill was released, allowing room for Kopp to stay. But that may change after the TL break.
As far as I know Kopp is still with the team and pitching in tomorrows game in ABQ.
Kulick and Fick are able to be used as either starter or reliever, depending on how things go, we might see them used in different ways. Memphis still has a double header to play, and Ott is still up, so who knows what they have planned at this point. Hamilton will also be returning soon to Memphis.
Players being moved up right now on all teams probably more for need than if they are actually ready.
