My impressions of some key Batavia players will be coming sometime tomorrow, as it awaits video and picture uploads. So keep an eye out for that.

Blake Hawksworth IS America!

Memphis had the night off, which any of the players that might be called up to fill out the bench could have walked from Beale Street to Busch Stadium and made it by the 6th inning in yesterdays game!

    I noticed that Longmire didn’t play yesteday. Any rumors about him getting promoted to QC?

    anyone have any scuttlebut about signings? it seems the college pitchers would have signed by now, they can’t all be wanting big overslot dfeals. I understand Cox, Jenkins and Wilson waiting it out. just looking for some info, if anyone knows of any.

  3. Andrew says:

    You plan on doing anything tomorrow about the July 2 International signing day? Maybe a list of the guys we have signed over the last few years and who me are connected to this year?

  4. BigRob says:

    @Andrew:

    I like that idea. I don’t think the Cardinals will be linked to any of the top guys this year after signing Matias. It looks like he may have actually been the best one out there, even though he is older than most of the kids that will be signed tomorrow and the coming days.

  5. Benji says:

    Does anybody have any info on Carlos Matias? How he’s been pitching? Seems like there’s been very little available for such a potential impact player.

    Is he just shrouded in mystery and there’s nothing anyone can do about it? That would be kind of neat too.

    @Benji:

    Matias has been lights out in the DSL, but as we were reminded in the DFR from a few days ago, that doesn’t always mean much. Nevertheless, it’s good to see a guy with his stuff getting a ton of swings and misses while keeping his walks down. His most recent outing, according to MILB.com, was 8 innings, but Matthew Leach tweeted that it was two seperate outings with one being from a rain delay. Here is the link to his page on MILB.com and his stats, but I warn you to keep your paper bag close: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=593372

    @Dan in Haiti:

    I haven’t heard anything about signings other than the guys who are currently playing for our minor league teams right now. BUT, I’d imagine most of these guys we are waiting on will be signing near or above slot, so they probably won’t make an appearance until right around the deadline.

    I was checking up on Arkansas baseball next year, and ran accross the article that I’ve linked below. The majority of it is talking about incoming recruits for the Hawgs in 2011, but I made sure I soaked in this little tidbit at the top of the article:

    “Losing at least seven of eight drafted players – with Collin Kuhn’s baseball future still unannounced – and trying to hold on to eight of nine signees who were also selected by pro teams leaves little time to think about anything other than avoiding a drop-off in 2011.”

    Take that for what it’s worth, but that says to me that Arkansas has already received word that all of their players that were drafted, aside from Kuhn, will almost undoubtedly be signing to go pro. My best guess is that Cox and the Cardinals already have a deal worked out, but it is probably above slot so we will hear nothing of the deal and won’t see anything from Cox until the signing deadline. I’ve heard in the past that by not allowing a team to announce a deal until the deadline, Selig is trying to prevent teams from signing players over their predetermined slot value. Like I said, take it for what it’s worth, but I would be nearly shocked if Cox doesn’t sign sometime around the deadline. Now, let’s just hope that Austin Wilson jumps on board too!

    Benji, there is a Carlos Matias update in the upper right corner of the home page here. also you can go into the MILB.com site for info on the DSL stat’s. when you combine ip, hits allowed, walks, SO’s, he is doing great. you can look up the info and compare with other DSL pitchers yourself, but he seems to have a lot of promise as of now.

    Wither Roberto De la Cruz?

  9. Tackle Box says:

    Strange.

    If I attempt to access this blog from my bookmark I get a message that reads”

    “Sorry, but for the good of the rest of the community, you have been banned. You’ve either been rude, lame or just plain annoying. Good day. ”

    However, if I go though Google, everything is normal.

    What gives?

  10. GL says:

    @Tackle Box:

    Same thing with me. Somehow I feel like this may be Azru’s fault.

  11. azruavatar says:

    I’m looking around — I’ve been off the site all day. Not sure what is causing this.

  12. shaneo69 says:

    Cory Rauchenwrecker attempting to make a comeback with the organization, as per Goold…

  13. Pierce says:

    I’ve had the same problem with the ‘banned’ message, but it’s now working fine for me.

  14. db says:

    Cody Stanley is also off to a good start.

  15. Shanky says:

    I like the work of our collegians thus far at Batavia. . .the aforementioned Longmire, but also Stanley, Bergman, and Garcia. It would be nice if one or two of these guys can sustain that at the higher levels.

  16. BigRob says:

    If you type in “futureredbirds.net” you get the banned message. If you type “www.futureredbirds.net” everything works fine.

  17. cariocacardinal says:

    Anyone know how Garcia’s defense compares to Jackson’s? Early returns show Garcia most likely will be the better hitter.

  18. Andrew says:

    Boy this hurts a bit- Good to know we were close to getting him but well, too bad the Red Sox didn’t take someone else.

  19. Vallon says:

    I saw this kid play against ORU in Tulsa, mate this Boone Whiting has god some decent stuff.
    So far so good today he has 10K through 5 innings allowing 1 ER
    17K this season in 10 innings not bad

  20. Bustacard says:

    Ironic that Govenah’ Hawksworth is Canadian.

  21. GL says:

    @Bustacard:

    Atleast someone got it.
