QC got canceled today and all of AAA was off so Memphis was as well.  Nice how that works isn’t it.

Springfield is in a delay in game 2 of their double header.  They ended up ending the game after 6 innings.

Springfield 7, Midland 2 (Game 1 – 7 innings)

  • Ryan Kulik went the full 7 innings allowing only 1 hit, but 2 runs via a HBP and a HR. He struck out 7 and only walked 2. Solid.
  • DJ Tools hit a solo HR and went 2-4 with 3 runs scored.
  • Steven Hill had a 3 run HR.
  • Andrew Brown was 2-3 as was Pete Kozma.

Springfield 1, Midland 5 (Game 2 – 6 innings)

  • Gary Daley started for Springfield and scattered 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs.
  • Blake King relieved him and stranded his 2 runners in the 5th, but allowed 2 runners of his own to score in the 6th.
  • Chicken Fried Steve Hill had 2 hits and Matt Carpenter had a double.

Palm Beach 3, Bradenton 5

  • Richard Castillo took the loss with 3 runs (2 earned) over 5.2 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 5.
  • Joel Pichardo stranded Castillo’s 2 runners in getting the last out of the 6th, but allowed 2 of his own in the 7th.
  • Matthew Frevert and Miquel Tapia finished up the game each with a shutout inning.
  • Niko Vasquez hit a solo HR and walked.
  • Jared Bogany also hit a solo HR.
  • Xavier Scruggs had a double and a single.
  • Chris Swauger had 2 hits.

Batavia 6, Staten Island 5 (15 innings)

  • Matthew North started the extra inning affair with 3 innings and 2 runs allowed.
  • David Kington pitched around 2 walks and a hit for a shutout inning.
  • Zack Russell (Don’t call me Ronald) struck out 11 of the 19 batters he faced in 5 shutout innings.
  • Jose Rada struck out 4 of the 6 outs he got in 2 shutout innings.
  • LaCurtis Mayes got the win even though he gave up 3 unearned runs in the 15th. He pitched a total of 3.2 innings.
  • Houston Summers came in to strand 1 runner and get the last out.
  • Victor Sanchez had the game winning 3 run HR in the 15th and went 2-7 for the game.
  • Adam Melker went 3-6.
  • Colin Walsh and John Rodriquez both went 3-7.

Johnson City 6, Kingsport 13

  • Ryan Copeland struck out 4 and walked 1 in 5 innings allowing 2 runs. He was the main bright spot for the JC pitching staff.
  • Hector Hernandez, Christopher Patterson and Andrew Benes all got touched up.
  • Bob Revesz pitched a shutout inning.
  • Francisco Guzman allowed 2 runs in .2 innings while Iden Nazario got the last out.
  • Patrick Elkins had a single, double and solo HR.
  • Christopher Edmondson was also 3-4.
  • Romulo Ruiz had a 2 run HR. Ruiz is a player who I feel like has been around forever, but this is only his 3rd season in the US portion of the system after missing the 2008 year with an injury. He hits a lot of fly balls, but he has increased his walks this year in only 66 at-bats. He’s almost OPSing 900 so far in his second go-round in JC. Grain of salt, but good to see.

Does anyone know what Matias or Roberto de la Cruz will see time in the States? I am really intrigued by these guys but as all the experts on here say we need to see them versus better competition.

  2. Indiana Cardinal says:

For some reason Ryan Kulik’s excellent game got me to think about Ben Jukich and then Mike Parisi. Jukich’s season is very mediocre. He is pitching mostly relief at AAA Louisville. Parisi is terrible at AAA Iowa. He must be injured in that he has pitched a very small number of games.

  3. Tackle Box says:

How much time does Matthew North have left in the organization? Seems like ages ago they drafted him and he’s only advanced to Batavia.

What was the attraction? Is he a hard thrower? Or just a good guy who tries hard. He’s never really excelled at any level.

  4. Andrew says:

Matias won’t until he his certifed by MLB and he is officially a Cardinal. De La Cruz needs to start succeeding at GCL first before we move him, no need to rush him and destroy any confidence he has he’s still only 18.

@themop10: John Vuch has said that they intend to get Matias stateside this year. Just waiting for the process to complete.

  6. Vision says:

    @azruavatar:

Does this mean you’re more confident they’ll get him approved than you initially were?

  7. azruavatar says:

@Vision: Yes. All indications are that it’s just a matter of time. Some of this delay may be in the visa process as well.

Its only 29 at bats, but Niko seems to be enjoying the Florida weather…He’s OPSing >1.200 and still showing a prettyg good eye with a 5:6 BB:K ratio…hopefully he has started to figure it out

  9. HogWildCard says:

What’s the word on Zach Russell? He has had pretty good stats the last couple of years, but I have never really heard much about him till this year. What kind of stuff does he have?
