Memphis 0, New Orleans 1

  • Donovan Solano was 3-for-4.
  • An unfortunate outing for PJ Walters who was abandoned by his defense. He went 6 innings striking out 1 and walking 1 while allowing just 1 hit. That one hit turned out to be a solo HR and the only run of the game. Anthony Reyes sends his regards.

Springfield 4, Arkansas 0

  • Daryl Jones was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Steven Hill and Andrew Brown with both be wearing the sombrero today.

  • Xavier Scruggs was 2-for-4 with a HR in his first Springfield AB.
  • Jose Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double. Garcia is hitting .315 in Springfield but hasn’t shown much in the way of secondary offensive skills. He doesn’t walk much and he’s hit for limited power thus far.
  • Nick Additon struck out 5 in 6 scoreless innings allowing 2 walks and 4 hits.
  • Blake King pitched a scoreless inning walking 2 and striking out 1.

Palm Beach 5, Daytona 7

  • Charles Cutler was 2-for-4.
  • Richard Racobaldo was 2-for-4.
  • Jared Bogany was 2-for-4 with a double and a HR.
  • Ryan Jackson was 2-for-3 with a double. Jackson’s compiled a .714 OPS on the season but the severe lack of power is worrisome for his long term prospects. Love the glove.
  • Kevin Thomas got the start and was touched for 8 hits and 5 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings.
  • Matt Frevert allowed 1 hit while striking out 2 in an inning of work.
  • Casey Mulligan struck out 2 and walked 1 in his first appearance returning to PB.

Johnson City 4, Burlington 6

  • Oscar Taveras was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Kleininger Teran was 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Roberto Reyes was 2-for-4.
  • Boone Whiting allowed 5 runs and 4 hits for 4.2 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 2. Whiting’s command has been superb striking out 38 and walking just 4 in 31.1 innings thus far.

Even with the limited AB, isn’t it time for Oscar Taveras to be promoted?

    .378/.422/.592

That’s a darn impressive stat line. Now, I understand they don’t want to rush him, but if he continues to hit like that how long do you leave him down there?

    • BigRob says:

The Oscar Taveras bandwagon is getting awfully full. Don’t worry, we can make some room for more. :)

      • Karmaloop says:

I want see him in person before I jump on that wagon. ;) But he has been hitting quite well in Johnson City though.

I would rather see Cody stanley promoted to Batavia. Haven’t been impressed with Stock and wonder if Stanley might pass him up as a catching prospect

Luhnow mentioned they wanted the whole JC team to move up together for the most part. Ryan Jackson’s offense my have turned around the last few weeks. And good for Xman on his first HR in Springfield. I’m definately on the Taveras bandwagon too. It’s not the stats that do it for me but the how Luhnow talks about him and his genuine sound of excitement.

On a different note Robertot De La Cruz now has 5 HR’s this year.

    • cariocacardinal says:

De LA Cruz’s K rate and K/BB rate are still problamatic for projecting him having much success.

On a completely different note that I’ve been fishing around to find an answer, what was the results or any news back on the background check of Carlos Matias? I’ve asked around, but I haven’t been able to get any sort of news about it.

  4. Andrew says:

Every indicition is that they were expecting word by the end of this month. The Cardinals are confident in their investigation and feel that its simply a formality at this point but they are really looking forward to getting him to Fla to fact better comp and sign offically.

    • BVHeck says:

That’s great. I really hope we get him. 2010 has the potential to be looked back upon as the year our system finally turned around (and was able to supplement the Pujols contract..) with Matias, Wilson, and Cox amongst others signing.

  5. cariocacardinal says:

Given the run he gave up was a homer it is hard to say that PJ’s defense betrayed him. The offense difinitely did though.

  6. Andrew says:

Strauss has said their not much movement on the Zach Cox front and their is word that the team may be pooling its resources and dedicated themselves more to Wilson. This must mean that they are confident that he may end up signing.

    • Karmaloop says:

Honestly, I’d love to have Zack Cox in our system, but if his demands are where they were pre-draft, I’m more than happy collecting that supplemental first round pick for him instead. Again, I’d like to have him in our farm system, but in no way is he a deal breaker like Shelby Miller was last year.

  7. Andrew says:

What are the chances Austin Wilson ends up signing?
Joe Strauss: Still less than 50-50. But the fact I’m even discussing it is reason for optimism within the Cardinals front office. Initially they thought it likely a token pick. Wilson really enjoyed his visit to St. Louis. Apparently his family did as well. Intriguing.

    • Karmaloop says:

Not that I’m doubting you, but you mind posting the link to that chat?

And I agree with Strauss, the fact that Wilson and his mom even came up to visit St. Louis has made me more optimistic that a deal could be reached. Not that I expect him to sign, but it doesn’t hurt that the Cardinals don’t think that there is no chance of a deal being reached.
