Yesterday, the Walrus was traded for the 3rd time in his 3 year professional baseball career. He is now the proud property of the Houston Astros and with Lance Berkman possibly being dealt in the next 48 could be their starting 1B next time we head to Houston. I think its worth noting that Ryan Jackson is hitting more than I thought he would. I still have doubts about his bat but it is nice to see him having some success with the bat.
Really…you must have set the bar petty low for you to say he is out hitting your expectations. Still a pretty awful hitter.
I was expecting a .225-.250 hitter this year. He is hitting .285…that is exceeding my expectations.
Was excited to get a chance to see Hooker in person last night in Daytona and then the big right hander could not even get out of the first inning, Ugh. His fastball was clocked consistently at 88 according to the stadium speed gun, he could not get his breaking ball over and he definitely was not fooling anyone. Ryan Jackson, looked painfully thin, but he hit the ball hard all night. Niko made two errors at 3B, failing to glove a high bouncer that would have gotten Hooker out of the 1st and throwing wide to first on his next play, before starting a nice double play a couple of innings later.
That was my impression of Hooker the only time I saw him pitch when he was still with QC. I was assured this was not a typical Hooker appearance, and I have to say, his numbers and boxscore’s do support that. Hopefully, he just had a bad night.
I’m not sure I was aware though, that Jackson had been promoted.
Seems like Stanley could use a little more of a challenge than he’s getting at Johnson City.
One would think so. He “should,” quote unquote, be tearing up that league, given that he’s a major-college product, but it’s still required that he actually do it.
Any reports out there on his fielding skills? If BR is to be believed, people aren’t running on him — 4 attempts in 14 games as a catcher, with a 50% gun-down rate — but that is hardly conclusive evidence as to what kind of catcher he is.
Wallace doesn’t have a good BB:K ratio, and I think a lot of scouts thought it would develop better at this point. He’s a sub-par defensive guy whose best position is first base, is projected to hit for a pretty good average, walk marginally, and have average power. In other words, his skill set at his position isn’t exactly rare. A guy with the talent he had with his bat coming out of the draft doesn’t float around from club to club like this if scouts haven’t soured somewhat on the potential he has at the plate, combined with the limits he has defensively.
The package sent for Holliday doesn’t look so steep anymore.

Per Mathew Leach tweet – Blair signing is officially done and announced…no details on the bonus.
Blair will be assigned to Batavia
Reportedly just above 750,000 per the P-D – not the exact total yet. Is that slot for a supplemental first-rounder?
