FirstInning’s player linker is down so you’ll have to traverse their website to get stats for individuals today.
- Jim Rapoport was 3-for-6.
- Nick Stavinoha was 5-for-6 with a HR.
- Ruben Gotay was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
- Bryan Anderson was 2-for-5 with a HR. That is Anderson’s 10th HR of the year. He’s currently sporting a .757 OPS which is being weighed down by a low BABIP (.296) despite 25% of his contact being line drives. Make no mistake, Bryan Anderson performance is probably the best we’ve seen out of him, relative to the competition level, this far in his career.
- Lance Lynn allowed 5 runs in 5.2 innings on 8 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 4. Lynn likely had a clear shot at the 2011 rotation but given his AAA performance this year, the club has to feel uneasy expecting him to be major league ready next year.
- Franscico Samuel pitched a scoreless frame despite walking 3 batters.
- Steve Hill with a golden sombrero performance.
- Andrew Brown was 3-for-4.
- Trey Hearne allowed 5 runs in 4 innings. He was touched up for 7 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3.
- D’Marcus Ingram went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
- Richard Racobaldo had himself a night going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk and a HR.
- Richard Castillo failed to escape the first inning allowing 7 hits and 6 ER while retiring just 2 batters.
- Matt Frevert struck out 3 and allowed a hit in 2 innings of work. Frevert has been quite successful this season striking out 50 in 41.2 innings and walking just 12.
- Casey Mulligan worked 2 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 ER. He struck out 1.
Quad Cities 11, Clinton 12 (11 innings)
- Luis Mateo was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk.
- Matt Adams was 2-for-5 with both hits going over the fence. Adams leads the team in HRs with 18. Edgar Lara is second with 14.
- Frederick Parejo went 2-for-5 with a HR.
- Raniel Rosario put one over the fence.
- Jorge Rondon exhibited poor command again walking 3 in 3 innings allowing 5 hits and 6 runs.
- Jesse Simpson struck out 2 and allowed a hit in 2 IP.
- Batavia tallied just 3 hits and 2 walks in the game.
- Justin Edwards allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out 5 and walked 1.
- LaCurtis Mayes pitched the remaining 2.2 innings striking out 2.

I’m going to the Batavia game tonight – hoping to see Longmire launch one
When you get back give us a report on some of the key guys like Longmire.
does anyone think that gotay deserves a chance to play 3b with the freese injury?
Obviously there is something that we, as fans, don’t see with him. STL isn’t the first organization to leave Gotay in AAA despite some fairly impressive numbers. Just like with not playing Craig at 3B, if they aren’t giving Gotay a chance, I’m inclined to think they do not think he will succeed.
But he was signed for situations like this. His defense should be about what they expected. I doubt it changed much. He has hit adequately. Why sign a guy like this (and even give him a S.T. invite) if you aren’t going to call him up when you need him.
and give him the 3rd base at bats? puzzliing
I don’t see why Gotay shouldn’t be given a shot, although when the Cards go to Florida this weekend to play Marlins, they might leave Florida with one of them.. Wes Helms.
One of Gotay’s problems is that he is not on the 40 man roster which means that they would have to drop someone or put someone like Ottavino or Penny on the 60 day DL. They will have to create a spot on the 40 man roster shortly when Lohse is activated from the 60 day DL.
Freese is likely to end up on the 60 day DL soon.
Along with Freese, I’d say there’s no problem putting Ottavino on the 60 day DL. He’s had a SLAP tear (IIRC) that requires surgery. He’s not going to be back this year, and perhaps not for some of next. Gotay’s likely gone next year anyhow (along with a number of other 40man guys) so the crunch is less of an issue after this season.
I believe that Ottavino has choose not to have surgery and is instead rehabbing. I see him in the dugout all the time so I’m not sure if that means hes working with the team trainers or what.
Also, Pagnozzi, MacLane and Robinson are apparently on the 40-man. Whilst I quite like MacLane, there’s basically absolutely nothing lost in letting any of those guys walk.
Does anyone know where Seth Blair is going to play?
He will start at Batavia (I believe he reported yesterday). But I’ve heard he hasn’t thrown since June so I wouldn’t expect to see him for a couple of weeks.
Thanks. That’s probably a good thing he hasn’t pitched in awhile considering how much college coaches usually ride their best pitchers.
Anyone else have any more info on the tweet from Brian Walton that says Jenkins is close to signing?
Saw that too. . .I don’t have any info to add, other than it said “Jenkins turns down chance to play for Baylor” or something to that effect. So either the deal is signed, or it’s about to be. Sweet. Now we need to get Wilson and Cox locked up and give this system two legitimate offensive prospects to join Miller, Jenkins, Matias, Blair and Bryan Martinez.
Jenkins has let the Baylor football staff that he won’t be playing football. Someone from Waco mentioned him signing on Aug 13th. Looks like a done deal just waiting for the commissioners offer to approve and the amount over slot will make it so that he can sign on the 13th.
That’s awesome! Can’t wait to get him in the organization and see what he can do.
Oh my, if we add austin wilson, our draft class has the chance to be pretty special
