Interesting comparable! I’m old enough to remember Smokey Burgess, and yes, there are some similarities. However, before Burgess was an extraordinarily effective pinch hitter, he was also a very capable catcher whose kill rate on stolen-base attempts reached 50% in some years according to B-R. Hill has a ways to go before he reaches that. OTOH, Burgess lasted until he was 40, so if Steve can get this defense thing down …

Agreed but we have two young SS at MLB and AAAA level (Boog and T. Greene). They give us time to find and develop a young SS. Still, the Kozma draft pick really hurts.

Winn has been a lot better than Stavinoha. And he was a 5 WAR player 2 seasons ago, and nearly average last year with horrible BABIP luck.

No way Kozma is gone after this year, he’s a first round pick and the SS in our system are VERY weak. Solano will probably still be at Memphis, Kozma still at Springfield, Jackson at PMB again and Castillo in Quad Cities. I really believe that SS is the weakest position overall in our system.

I hope not, I have a big rooting interest for him because he is from my hometown. I still see a lot of promise in him, but I am especially worried because it seems he may not be suited to be a big-league SS, since he has like 31 errors this year. Maybe i move to 2B could help him? I think he has what it takes to be a good ball player, but he has to step it up NOW though to save himself.

I’m real interested in what they do with Hill as we have alot of good catchers in the system that actually play the position.

How can you figure? He has no trade value and the organization spent a first round draft pick on him..he has at least a couple more years by my count…not that he should, the hyperbole from spring training still makes me sick. I hope he turns it around and I have nothing against the guy, from all accounts he put a lot of work into his game, but he’s not even a top ten prospect at this point. Best case scenario he would be a September call up this year; suffice to say, he’s won’t even be an Arizona fall league call up at this point
