This DFR brought to you while working on my Cueto kicks on the back of my couch…
- Kyle Lohse must have stopped just working on pitches and actually started to try to get players out (I kid!) because he pitched much better tonight at a hitter’s park in Reno. He went 7 innings with 9 (9!) strikeouts and only 2 walks and 3 hits. Kyle, that’s how you prove you are healthy enough to return to the bigs.
- Dan Descalso had a solo HR and an RBI single.
- Stav had 2 hits
- Adron had a pinch-hit single and a stolen base.
Springfield was off.
Palm Beach was postponed.
Quad Cities 6, Peoria 2 (Final – 6 innings)
- So far it is easy to see why the Cardinals drafted Daniel Bibona twice. He struck out 8 in 5 inning. He allowed 5 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) and walked 3, but so far so good for Bibona in his first year in the system.
- Justin Smith pitched .1 inning before the delay with 1 strikeout.
- Devin Goodwin, Rainel Rosario and Edgar Lara each had 2 hits. Rosario had 4 RBIs all by himself.
- Justin Edwards started for the Muckdogs and took the loss even though he gave up only 2 earned runs (4 total) and 5 hits in 7 innings. He struck out 5 and only walked 1.
- LaCurtis Mayes pitched the last 2 shutout innings with 3 Ks.
- Pat the Bat Biserta was at DH (natch) and went 2-3 with a double.
- Joey Bergman was 2-4 with a walk and SB.
- Yunier Castillo and Roberto Espinoza had a double.
- Equal opportunity pitching as Trevor Rosenthal (4Ks / 0 BBs and 1 hit allowed) and Cale Johnson (2 runs allowed but 4 Ks to 0 walks) each got 3 innings and Andrew Benes got 2 innings. Bob Revesz got the save.
- Greg Garcia had a 3-run HR on a 2-3 night and a walk.
- Roberto Reyes had a double on the way to a 2-3.
- Patrick Elkins and his mustache was 2-4.

steve hill to replace larue with cards
I’d say not a chance. The announcers last night made a comment something along the lines of Molina starting two weeks straight. Odds are he’s going to need at least a day or two off during the entire potential DLing of LaRue. I don’t think Hill can handle it back there for mutliple games. interesting pinch hitter option though. I’d expect to see Pagnozzi (sp?) called up if anybody.
Is Bryan Anderson hurt?
have a lil faith my friend
It’s true. I’ve seen it a couple places, including the infamous cryptic tweets from Strauss indicating a surprise call-up that would require a shuffle on the 40-man roster. It’s a very surprising move.
Again, look at TLR track record. He likes defense from his catcher, and let’s just say Steven Hill isn’t known for his defensive prowess. We’re looking at a defensive catcher that can spell Molina for a game or two while LaRue is on the DL.

Any one know why Tyler Lyons has been placed on the 60 day DL?
Probably shut him down for the season. He just got signed, absolutely no reason to force him out there. Maybe a resurface in the AFL possibly?
Tendinitis
Later, Suppan. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
“Adron” is now a first name only athlete – talk about the ultimate compliment!
It’s like Lebron only cooler.
The more I think about the move of adding Hill the less sense it makes. I would assume if they did this they had already decided he was going on the 40 man roster in the off season anyway. Of course we will probably end up wasting an option on him this year. But from a financial standpoint it doesn’t seem to be logical. We could have charterd a private plane to have Anderson or Pagnozzi here by game time today. for about $10K. Hill’s minor league salary will jump by more than that next year as a major league veteran. So we end up with an inferior backup catcher, waste an option, and end up spending more money in the long run. Not a solid decision in my opinion.
There are two possibilities here that I can see. One is that they’re displaying some of the stuff in the system’s bargain bin, in the hope of still getting in some pre-9/1 trade action with Hill as a pot sweetener. I don’t entirely agree with whoever said he has negligible trade value; a bat will play, and not every system has a Daric Barton Lite (and Old…) in it, which is what Hill looks like.
The other, which I really hope is correct, is that something has happened to convince the team that he really IS wielding a major-league bat, and they want to give it a more careful look with the big team. Consider: suppose he’s made some manner of recent breakthrough and his power surge is real. Would you rather have a guy with Hill’s enhanced toolkit on the roster, or Stavinoha’s?
I watched Trevor Rosenthal pitch…guys, this kid is going to be a top prospect…The Kid was SITTING 95-96…and touching 97…and no one is talking aout him. He JUST turned 20 as well…He has a nasty slider as well…
I’m going to go out on a limb, and say he ends up in the top 10 in our system at some point…incredible stuff!
Guns in the low minors are often all over the place.
Robertson is getting lit up today, 10 runs allowed in 4 innings
I should say that is for Memphis
I’ve followed Trevor at Cowley County as well…he throws that hard…there were scouts at his game, and each gun had him in the mid 90′s…95, 93…94…96….
Secondary pitches? Or is he more likely a hard throwing reliever?
Seems to get a lot of ground balls as well. Good sink?
His stats look pretty nice so far too. Will be interesting to see how he gets on next year if they toss him into low-A.
An aside….I nominate the nickname MC Hammer for MAtt Carpenter
