Johnson City 5, Pulaski 6

  • Oscar Taveras went 3-for-5 with a double. At the tender age of 18, Taveras has a .931 OPS in Johnson City.
  • Patrick Elkins was 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • Cale Johnson struck out 6 in 4 innings. He allowed 2 hits and 1 ER.
  • Drew Benes struck out 2 while retiring 4.

Batavia 6, Hudson Valley 8

  • Chris Edmondson was 2-for-5. He’s been overshadowed somewhat by fellow 2010 draftee Nick Longmire, but Edmondson has been hitting well since his promotion to Batavia. His seasonal line between the two stops is at .322/.381/.559.
  • Jonathan Rodriguez went 4-for-4 while hitting for the cycle.
  • Justin Edwards got hit hard for 5 ER on 8 hits in 4.1 IP.
  • LaCurtis Mayes also was roughed up for 3 ER in 1.2 IP.

Quad Cities 5, Burlington 3 (7 innings)

  • Frederick Parejo was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • CJ Beatty was 2-for-3.
  • Edgar Lara drove in all 5 runs going 2-for-3 with a grand slam.
  • Daniel Bibona had a good outing allowing just 2 runs (1 earned) in 5 innings. He struck out 5 and walked 3.

Quad Cities 11, Burlington 3 (7 innings)

  • Matt Adams was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
  • Raniel Rosario was perfect in four trips to the plate with a pair of doubles and a pair of walks.
  • Justin Smith struck out 6 in 5 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 1 walk and 5 hits.

Palm Beach 4, Bradenton 2 (7 innings)

  • Domnit Bolivar was 3-for-3 with a pair of homeruns.
  • Deryk Hooker went 5.2 IP and struck out 5. He allowed 2 ER on 4 hits and 1 walk. Hooker and Schneider have both had a bumpy adjustment to High-A and more selective hitters.
  • David Carpenter picked up his 19th save with a 1 hit, 1 K scoreless 7th.

Palm Beach 0, Bradenton 1 (7 innings)

  • Ryan Jackson doubled and walked in 3 trips to the plate.
  • Jared Bradford allowed 1 run over 5 innings of work. He walked 3 and allowed 3 hits. Bradford struck out just 1 but recorded 12 of 13 outs on the ground. Don’t worry Jared, the other St. Louis Bradford lost this weekend too. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he makes more than you though.

Springfield 4, San Antonio 6

  • Tommy Pham took a shot off the wrist in the loss. X-rays pending.
  • Jose Garcia was 2-for-4.
  • Arquimedes Nieto was hit hard for 6 runs in 5 innings. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4.
  • Blake King struck out 2 and walked 2 while allowing a hit in 1 IP. Look for some very specific comments on King when I have my Springfield writeup later this week.

Memphis 1, Colorado Springs 3

  • Joe Mather was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. I’ll be curious to see if Mather sticks on the 40-man in the offseason. I think the Cardinals might try to retain him without keeping him protected.
  • Lance Lynn allowed 3 runs (2 earned) in 6 innings. With a 4.45 FIP on the season, Lynn has been a significant disappointment. His control has taken a step backward. I’m hoping to catch one of his starts in Memphis at the end of the month. When I saw him in Springfield last year, I wasn’t particularly impressed.
  • Chuckie Fick allowed just 1 hit in 2 scoreless innings while striking out 1.

Raniel Rosario has an OPS near .900 splitting time between Batavia and QC. Just 21. Luhnow has always touted him as a toolsy player.

I saw Rosario play Saturday and I thougth he looked good, he hit a home run in extra innings to give the Bandits the lead.

Mather can be claimed by a team when waived and only have to be put on the 40 man roster and won’t be required to make the 25 man roster. That of course is complicated by the fact that he will be out of options. Of course the option issue is a problem for us too if we want him around next year. The whole situation is complicated further by the fact that if we remove him from the 40 man roster he can become a 6 year minor league FA I believe.

Now we have to re-evaluate whether Az brought Pham luck or not. Pham reportedly out 2 weeks with wrist injury.

I posted some more videos from Johnson city, including last nights starter Trevor Rosenthal. I was surprised by his stuff, with a low to mid 90s fastball, a high 80s two seem with good movement and a slider which was, well, there. A nice pickup by the cards in the late rounds.

Also a few more videos of Taveras, and quite a bit of Stanley behind the plate. Oh, and Packy.

Oh and Cerranto was sporting a nifty cast on his right wrist, definitely a little injured. Tyrell Jenkins was hanging out, but wouldn’t pitch upon request
