Only two games tonight and they weren’t good ones. The rain and the All-star games are easy on a DFRer.

BJ Rains of Fox Sports Midwest reported that our favorite non-US visa’ed future redbird Carlos Matias has been shut down for the year due to innings, not injury. However, Luhnow also says they are confident he will be in the states “in the near future.”

Also, in other Twitter news, Twitter’s favorite future redbird CJ Beatty got promoted to Palm Beach.

Come leap with me into the DFR!

Memphis 2, Salt Lake 8

  • Evan MacLane gave up 2 earned – innings.
  • Ryan Kulik took the loss giving up 6 runs (only 2 earned because of a Donovan Solano throwing error) in 3 innings.
  • Francisco Samuel pitched a shutout inning.
  • Ruben Gotay had a double on the way to 2-3.
  • Kevin Howard was the only other player with 2 hits.

Palm Beach 1, Bradenton 5

  • Brett Zawacki took the loss giving up 5 runs in 6 innings. He did strike out 5 to 1 walk though.
  • Matthew Frevert pitched a 1-hit inning.
  • Casey Mulligan struck out 2 in the 8th for a no hit inning.
  • D’Marc had two hits.
  • Ryan Jackson had a double.
  • Ryde had a single. That’s it, that’s the hits.

NY-Penn League All Star Game

  • The NL All Stars lost 4-3 when the AL stars scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th.
  • Nick Longmire 0-2, Yunier Castillo 0-2 with a K to end the game and Joey Bergman 0-3.
  • Justin Edwards struck out 2 in a shutout inning.

Johnson City can’t get it going as they had a double header scheduled today and one game was canceled and the other postponed.

Chase Reid was also in the NY -Penn all star game. He struck out 3 and gave up 1 hit while pitching 1 inning.

Probably a good idea on Matias – nothing left to prove down in the DR so save his arm and get him here

  3. Hungry Jack says:

Is Gotay a butcher at 3B? Because the big club has a bit of a problem there and Gotay is sporting an .840 OPS.

    • Felonius_Monk says:

UZR reckons he’s adequate/mediocre at 3B and 2B, and pretty abysmal at SS. Sounds a bit like Lopez, to be honest; adequate I don’t see what they’ve got to lose at the moment. He deserved his chance ahead of Miles anyhow.

  4. Andrew says:

Give Greene the shot when he gets the rust off in Memphis. Looks like Lopez hurt his arm again last night anyway.

  5. Hugo says:

Anderson up, Hill down according to Globe Democrat, surprising that they didnt make this move sooner and surprising that it wasn’t Pags that got the call.

    • jjray says:

I just don’t get how Pags holds on to that 40 man roster spot. Now we have 5 catchers on the 40 man.

      • Pierce says:

I don’t care how good someone’s defense is; if they have a hard time breaking a .600 OPS in their entire career in the minors, they don’t deserve to be in the majors.

  6. Sam says:

So will Cox start at 2B or 3B? Anyone have any info/guesses/insight?
