In very short order, you’re going to see some changes occurring on Future Redbirds.  I’ve been disappointed with my ability to provide consistent and engaging posts about the minor leagues over this season. Time commitments at my day job have hampered my ability to post on a regular basis.  Jeff and Hardcore Legend have both done a tremendous job (as well as erik when he occasions by) without much guidance from me.  The failings and stagnation that the site has gone through are wholly my fault.

In an effort to correct that, I’m bringing in two new individuals to help re-vitalize the site.  I hope to free myself from some of the weekend DFR writing to do a better job of posting in the afternoons.  The goal being to return to the format that helped Future Redbirds to thrive and provide the content that you’ve come to expect from us.

I’m excited that Patrick (t7rick) and Andrew will both be joining the team at FR.  Both Jeff and HL will continue writing DFRs on their regular schedule. Patrick will do some pinch hitting toward the end of the season with an eye on getting set for 2011. Andrew will be joining in a more free writing sense contributing afternoon posts taking a look at the bigger minor league picture.

For myself, I’ll continue writing some DFRs depending on schedules. I’ll also be back in the habit of writing afternoon posts. The site needs better maintenance (it’s shameful that the 2010 top prospect page was never completed) and there’s the likelihood that in the future, we’ll add additional functionality and features to help foster community discussion.

I’m excited about the changes. I think they’ll help improve the site and I hope they allow us to bring the minors to life for Cardinals fans everywhere.

Thanks for being a loyal reader,
Az

I’d say these changes should be great for the blog. Personally, I love the DFRs and that’s what drives me to this site. However, when there is some extra stuff up, I always end up reading it because I find myself more and more interested in these players the more I know about them. So, in that sense, I’m excited about the additions.

Keep up the great work, I don’t know if you guys realize how much (and how many) really appreciate the work that goes on here.

If we could only get this site hooked up with SBN so you could take advantage of all that cash rolling in…….

Sounds exciting for sure. I am a daily reader, its one of the first things I read when I get to work in the morning. Keep up the great work, its much appreciated.

Looking forward to the changes. As a discussion point today do we see Cox in STL as part of the September call ups? Given that he’s on a Major League deal and the Cards would burn an option year to send him to a minor league club for the remainder of the season would it make sense to work him out in Jupiter and bring him up to get a taste of the big league atmosphere?

    • Richard says:

Oops, noticed that STLCardinals.com reports him as going to the GCL Cardinals. On the GCL Cardinals website it shows his status as Reserve and that he is not on the 40 man roster. I thought that he needed to be placed on the 40 man as part of a major league deal.

      • Wade says:

read Goold’s piece today … gives an explanation of the option years.

and I don’t think Holliday was on our 40 man on the MLB website until about two or three days later last year so don’t read into that.

and I 14th what everyone else has said. love the site and look forward to griping about the new contributors errors also

Dido to all of the above. I’m a daily reader who rarely comments – but I appreciate all the work that goes into the site’s maintenance. My day’s just not complete without the DFR. Thanks.

I only lurk here, but deeply appreciate the countless hours you put in providing this content. I love the info + your sense of humor and baseball smarts. Thanks!

Same here. Appreciate your work and effort. Not too many baseball resources in the country I am living in. (Baseball Americas would be lost in the mail, if I could afford them.)

I visit this site every day. Thanks!
      Another Michael

    +1

I read everyday, and rarely post due to my lack of knowledge compared to the everyday posters. Thanks for working to improve the blog.

    Az,
I wanted everyone to know I support your effort to improve this site. You must know by now that if I didn’t beleive in FR, I would not have contacted you regarding another recent matter. :)

Love the site and appreciate you’re efforts

  10. LDC says:

I think everyone appreciates the effort. It has to be really hard finding the extra time in your day to day obligations to do this while the rest of us lazily click and read.

Az, been a big fan of the site for awhile. These improvements sound great and will only make this place better.

Like several others, I seldom comment here, but visit this site daily. Because of FR, the minor league games I attend feel like major league games. Names like Carpenter, Hill, Jones and Kozma are as familiar as Pujols, Holliday and Wainwright. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the new content.

  14. Austin says:

Az, I just want to say what everyone else has said. Great work on the site and I look forward to any future improvements.

I’ll follow suit. I just found the site about 30 days ago and now look to it every day to get a glimpse of young Cardinals. You guys do an excellent job, any improvements made will just be more icing on an already delicious cake. Thanks

  20. Kremer says:

FR is amazing and should be a daily stop for any cards fan. You guys do a great job of covering our affiliates and their top players.

However, while your making some changes is there any way to get the standings for all our minor league affiliates posted on a side bar or at least a “standings” link on the tool bar?
