Batavia Muckdogs are 1 game up in the wild card chase in the NY-Penn League after their victory on Sunday night, but they were rained out tonight. Put a doubleheader on the sched manana.
We love to see postseason minor league baseball to see how the kids react under pressure as it were. So, hopefully Batavia can make it happen.
Hello neighbors, it’s a beautiful day for a DFR. Won’t you join me?
- PJ Walters was touched for 6 runs in 2.2 innings.
- Matt Scherer and Rich Rundles did their best to run out the clock on the semi-blowout.
- Francisco Samuel struck out 2 in 1 mop-up inning. He’s had a rocky year, but I hope he continues to improve his control. Because with control (I know, longshot most of the time) he could be a great relief weapon.
- Tyler Greene (Fangraphs needs to get his link right… stupid bugs) had two hits.
- Steven Hill took an odd path to AAA (through the majors) he was 0-3 with an RBI.
- Trey Hearne got the win for the S-Cards in relief with 2 shutout innings.
- Ramon Delgado, Blake King and Jason Buursma all combined to pitch the last 3.1 shutout innings.
- X-man went 3-5 and legged out a double to spite azru.
- Nick Derba hit a 2 run HR.
- Matt Carpenter and Pete Kozma both had a single and a double. Kozma had a stolen base and Carpenter had a walk.
- Kevin Thomas held the pitchers duel for the Cardinals with 7 shutout innings scattering 4 hits with 6 Ks to 3 walks. Thomas has been much better this year with his control getting more Ks and giving up less walks moving up to the more pitcher friendly league.
- Jesse Simpson took the L giving up 2 runs in 1 inning.
- Only notable hitter was Jared Bogany who was 1-1 with a single and 3 walks.
- Michael Blazek scattered 5 hits in 6 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned).
- LaCurtis Mayes blew the save with 4 runs allowed in 1 inning.
- Jose Rada has been a very nice surprise out of the bullpen this year. He’s 22, but he was a dominant closer in Batavia this year and he’s moved up and closing again for QC and doing well. 46/11 K/BB on the year.
- Devin Goodwin was 3-5 with a 2 run HR.
- Robert Stock hit his 1st HR of the year. (finally!)
- Luis Mateo and Colin Walsh both had 2 hits.
Batavia v Williamsport was postponed.
Johnson City 3, Bristol 2 (12 innings)
- Angel De Jesus struck out 3 and walked 2 in 3 shutout innings.
- Bob Revesz struck out 1 in 2 shutout innings.
- Hector Corpas got the save with 2 Ks in you guessed it, 1 shutout inning.
- Cody Stanley was 2-6 with the game winning RBI single.
- Greg Garcia was 2-5 with a walk.
- Rom Ruiz and Roberto Reyes both had doubles.

Still a Kozma fan!
me too.. i was watching two of the springfield cardinal/corpus christi games on milb.tv and he looked good in them..looked good in the field and at the plate..i think next year will be the make or break year for him in memphis
Too bad MiLB.tv is the worst thing in the world. I can only get 2 seconds in before it is unable to go any further. It buffers and then dies. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to 12 seconds.
Anyone have any tips?
It might be your pc or service, try clearing your cache, I haven’t had an issues with it.
What’s with Nick Derba’s hitting? He is reportedly a great defensive catcher who can’t hit. I realize it is a very small sample but he is hitting way better than he has ever done in the lower levels. Has anyone seen him so far at AA?
Derba was a decent hitter in ’07 at both Batavia and QC. He just never hit much at Palm Beach.
Sadsushi thanks for mentioning that I will have to check out the archive.
I am a huge Derba fan and happy to see that he’s doing well. I think he is a valuable player for the organization in more ways that just his defensive skills, I hope he sticks around. However, the springbirds were all over the opposing pitcher, and scored most of their runs in the first.
I too am still on the Kozma bandwagon.
been a long time fan. My question comment. should miller and adams move to FSL?
Don’t really know what Adams need to prove at QC 21yrs old of course another player with no postion .
Shelby has been dominate need to see him against better competition.
You probably are correct, but at this point with QC making the playoffs, I doubt you will see much player movement unless there are injuries. Adams is QC only real home run threat and with out him, their lineup would be pretty weak. I think they want to keep the team together to see what they can do come playoff time.
PB is in a playoff race, also they have no hitting at all.
