Sidenote: Anyone know why Shelby’s FIP is listed on FirstInning as 2.86 but 2.38 at Fangraphs? I know one of the variables in FIP is the total # of sacrifices induced – perhaps FirstInning doesn’t take those into account and Fangraphs does?

Personally, I don’t think a 46% groundball rate is anything to sneeze at when you consider his high strikeout rate as well.

Actually, come to think of it, I have a question. Does anyone know of some way to find out what percentage of a pitcher’s outs were on the ground, as opposed to the percentage of total balls in play? I wanted to figure up the total percentage of outs Miller recorded in which the ball failed to leave the infield (i.e. K%+GB%), but I don’t know of any way to find out the batted ball percentages on outs only. Hmm.
