Agree about the success of Johnson City. The Twins have owned the Appalachian League for too long. Now they are dethroned.

One minor correction, Ghandi San. Freese was obtained via trade. Also, Kozma is not clearly a miss. If determined, Pete can laugh last.

The Cardinals are crazy if they trade Rasmus. A prospect like Rasmus comes along once in a decade. They would
be better to dump TL than dump Rasmus.

The Springfield Cards qualified for the TL playoffs, even though they lost to Arkansas on Sunday.

Even though the S-Cards have had a surprisingly good season, being 1 of 4 playoff teams in an 8-team league isn't that big a deal.

Memphis still has a chance to win its division with a win today. (They won in 15 innings Sunday -- Allen Craig had the game-winning RBI -- to stay alive for one more day.) But even if they lose, they'll finish w. the 2nd- or 3rd-best record in the PCL, out of 16 teams.

More significant, I think, is the fact that Johnson City won the Appy League, and Batavia and QC qualified for the playoffs by winning their divisions. All 3 teams finished w. winning percentages over .600. So they didn't just sneak into the postseason, they dominated.

It was bizarre to read the complaints about the minor-league system in the P-D this weekend. The system generated 3 legit ROY candidates in Freese, Garcia, and Jay, plus useful role players like Salas, Tyler Greene, and a few others. Even Craig might've helped if he'd gotten more chances. It seems like the system is doing what it's supposed to do, despite misses with top-round draft picks in '06 and '07.

Just nosing around some of these links and I came across an interesting article. Don't know if anyone read it or not, but I thought it would, at least, intrigue some people.

Looks like we have some believers outside our STL HVPG club.
