Memphis got their PCL championship series off on the wrong foot in the DFR playoff edition!
- The Redbirds were away, even though they are playing the whole series at home due to construction at Tacoma’s home park.
- Evan MacLane didn’t have the best of outings allowing 2 HRs and 5 runs over 4.1 innings.
- He left the bases loaded for Chuckie Fick, but Fick let 2 of those runners home, but pitched a shutout in his next inning for a total of 1.2 innings.
- Matt Scherer struck out 3 of the 4 outs he got.
- Rich Rundles pitched the next .2 innings striking out 1.
- Mark Hamilton had 2 hits and 2 strikeouts.
- Donovan Solano had two hits and the Redbirds only 2 RBIs.
- Amaury Cazana, Ruben Gotay and James Rapoport all had doubles.

Memphis should bring in Broderick for a possible game 5. Or maybe Kopp or MacGregor. No confidence in Perez.
Its too bad that AA took Hill to sit on the bench..Springfield sure could have used his bat in the playoffs. Chambers would have helped as well. I think it is better for a position player to get reps instead of bench time.
yeah, I really don’t know what benefit Pagnozzi served (or is serving) the big club. He could have filled that all improtant back up catcher role for Memphis.
Kopp, MacGregor and Broderick would have had to continue throwing for another week or two (even if they weren’t used and who would you have removed from the roster) and they had it anyway, no playoff is worth a pitcher’s arm.
Is it fair to remove someone who contributed all year to the success of the AAA team?
Hill is one of two catchers on the AAA team, how could he be at springfield. Sitting on the bench this time of year really doesn’t mean much, season is over anyway. They couldn’t have brought down Chambers, extra innings means extra players.
All big clubs need 3 pitchers this time of year, in case one gets hurt, they had to call them up before it was too late. And don’t forget, someone has to do bullpens.
