As reported by Bird Land, the front office came down with some bad news for 14 ‘future redbirds’ yesterday, most notably, Trey Hearne, a 28th-round pick from the ’05 crop. Hearne didn’t do much for me, but some liked his groundball mold as something that could advance. After some success in the lower levels, his lack of command caught up to him, especially in 2010 when he averaged a 5.1 BB/9 over the span of three levels and 60.1 IP. Here are the rest of the players who were released:
Alberto Rivero
Joe Babrick
Matt North
LaCurtis Mayes
Yorbel Alcala
Moises Colorado
Jon Edwards
David Kington
Anthony Forseca
Chris Notti
Richard Racobaldo
Colt Sedbrook
Travis Lawler

AFL stuff starts Tuesday. Our friends at ESPN should have some pretty good coverage over there (if you’re an Insider, of course). We’ll try to keep you guys as updated as possible with anything Cardinal related out in the desert.

Now for some good news, Matias visa has been approved: http://twitter.com/Enrique_Rojas1/status/26858584491
Awesome news on the artist formerly known as Matias.
The only one that stings a bit is Edwards. I had high hopes for him. Seemed like he had some pop and a decent arm in the outfield, just couldn’t make consistent contact. Oh vell.
Edwards had a very good arm and did have some pop. He was very impressive body wise, if I remeber correctly from seeing him in QC. I was rooting for him, but he never seemed to be able to put it together. I assume another orginazation will give him a chance.
I was surprised by Ralcobaldo, I thought he did some good things and was mildly surprised by Colt Sedbrook.
That sucks he had to change his name to get a visa, I think Matias is better than Martinez.
He had to change his name back to his real name. Governments do not want people inventing phony names for passports and visas.
Matt North was the son of a Cards scout; he was bonused $150,000 in the 2006 draft; Edwards got $110,000. They got plenty of time to get it together. Though Lawler got $100,000 in the 2009 draft, the Birds had less patience with him.
No one on this list excited me in anyway. So no harm done with these moves IMO. The news on Martinez is big…I will have a close eye on him next year for sure.
A little surprised by Sedbrook. I would have thought he would get another year.
How does a 2010 FSL All Star get released? Rock was decent player. Second on the team in most categories. SMDH!
