A couple of St. Louis related prospect lists came out recently. One from fangraphs and one from John Sickels. Feel free to discuss either.
For what it’s worth, I’ve already got our top 20 prospect lists. We (and by that I mean me) haven’t put them into a post yet but I solicited them early to avoid confirmation bias. I expect the Future Redbirds Top 20 to run at the turn of the new year.

It’s great to see the main three guy’s from this past draft in the top six of both of these. It was a huge draft for the organization (though you could also look at it as a reflection of how poor the system was). Sickels is high on Hooker, I’ve alway thought he had the most upside of the starters.
I like the confidence both seem to have in Jenkins. I think he has the build to be very important down the line. Look forward to seeing him live at some point this year.
It’s nice that they see that potential in Jenkins but I think that the Fangraphs list at least went overboard on the recent acqusitions. Five of their top ten have virtually no American professional track record and another, Kelly, hasn’t shown much success in his two years. I think that Cox, Matias and possibly Jenkins should be in the list based on their scouting reports and high ceiling potential. I would put Blair and Swaggerty towards the rear of my second ten though as they have lower ceilings and have proven nothing.
I can’t imagine not having Matt Carpenter in the top ten and I would put Descalso in also for his proximity to the majors and the need at his position.
Sickels’ list looks like it’s based more on ceiling than likelihood of getting to the majors but that is going to be something we’ll all have to look at in doing our own. Love the Derek Hooker inclusion in the top ten.
Biggest gripe? Where’s Tommy Pham?
Whoops, my bad. Tommy’s # 17 in Sickels’ list. He’s better than that though, just you wait. Also I meant to say that Sickel’s list, like Fangraph’s are both based more on potential ceiling.
