Had horrible stats in college but looked good in the 2 times that he pitched when I saw him. The most impressive thing about him is he’s a 6’9 lefty. He’s not a fire baller but he’s got some velocity. He’s a work in progress but I liked what I saw from him in Spring and he definately earned his shot.

Thanks, I’m not familiar with the surgery so wasn’t sure how long you were supposed to be out. With this road trip coming up and having Jay and Craig already…. I could see us bringing up an extra bullpen guy. I could see Salas coming up.

Stavi is out of options so he would have to clear waiverrs to go back down. I doubt anyone would claim though unless he showed something in the 2-3 weeks up that he hasn’t shown before.

If they put Stav on the 40-man and called him up, would they be able to send him down without putting him on waivers?

I’m assuming since he’s on a minor league contract, but I’m not sure how options work with that.

Some guys have come back within like 11-12 days after. Is it worth it to hold out to maybe save 2-3 games while playing shorthanded a week and a half? Makes no sense to do this. I am 100% sure they will put him on the DL tomorrow and call someone up. My guess is Salas as we will have more of a need with RP’s with concerns over Garcia and McClellan going deep into games and only 1 day off in the next 2.5 weeks. Just my guess.

I wouldn’t be so sure, at least to start with. The fact that there are some weirdos who have come back in less than 15 days may cause the team to at least hold off on a DL move for a day or two, until they see how Lego is doing. A retro DL move is always possible.

Frankly, for all his shortcomings, Stav wouldn’t be the worst guy to add to the 40-man and bring up. (Can you say “Shane Robinson”?) If they cleared space by giving Batista his UR, I’d consider it addition by subtraction, and it would make room on the active roster for Salas or Sanchez — heck, ANY arm already on the 40-man would be more useful.
