Farm Director John Vuch provided the working rosters for the Cardinals minor league organizations. A little quick fiddling allows me to pass them along in table format. * indicate left-handers. # is switch hitters. Bold indicates a player on the DL.

Still more guys that need to be cut or put on the DL. All of the rosters are over their limit except QC.
At some point someone has to make the hard decisions – particularly regarding catchers.
All of the teams have an “inactive” roster as well though, where some guys will be at on different days. That is likely why each team has more players than roster spots. Some guys will rotate on and off that roster, but are going to be with the team.
Right — this isn’t clear up above but the working rosters will require some additional moves/tweaks prior to Thursday to get under the roster caps.
I would be interested if you have a link that explains that. The Short season clubs (Batavia, JC, GCL) have the inactive roster provision I believe but I’m almost positive none of the full season clubs work that way.
Isn’t it about time that Debra gets let go? He seems to be the best glove guy people say but it doesn’t seem he has a future with us. DeLaCruz was used as the guy that jumped up and down the levels to catch when there were injuries. I think every catcher in extended will stay in Short Season the whole year.
Is Debra a lady player?
I guess it is possible they all stay in extended due to the glut in fron of them but Klein had a .796 OPS last year at Batavia and he was drafted for his defense so I wont be surprised if he sees a full season team at some time this year.
Starting catchers in my opinion are…..Anderson, Hill, Perez and Stock or Stanley. I feel bad for Castillo a few people raved about him last year but it seems to be the third wheel in QC behind a second round pick and a 5th round pick.
What’s wrong with Stock? The bold type says he’s on the DL.
Stock will become a pitcher.
az, you alluded to this in the earlier post, but i’m pretty sure that henley/pham/luna is a better outfield than chambers and whoever else takes the field in memphis, not just as prospects, but right now. chambers is an interesting guy, but otherwise, ugh.
to a lesser extent, that’s true throughout the system. memphis has only a few names that interest me, but the other levels have prospects who are, if not sure things, at least intriguing. all three rotations are more interesting than memphis’s.
I may have overlooked his name, but I don’t see Anthony Garcia listed?
He didn’t get the Minor League invite…..but he’s going to Extended and will be in Batavia this year I believe. He didn’t catch last year and I think they are keeping him out of full season to get him back used to being a catcher.
Does the extended team play against external competition?
I believe they do play exhibition games against other team’s extended players, but I don’t know what percent of work that actually is compared to structured workouts and simulated games. Does anyone have any more info on how the extended ST is structured?
Cards will be playing squads from the Mets & the Marlins ext ST camps (I think those are the only teams still having camps close by to Jupiter.) Play 2 days in a row, then have a camp day (intersquad).
Tartamella jumps ahead of several other catchers. He was at Batavia in ’09 then demoted to JC last year. Now he jumps 3 levels to PB. Hard to figure. Espinosa seems expendable to me. I would rather see Klein get the shot at QC if A. Garcia is going to catch at Batavia. The extended team provides more depth than I have seen. Edmondson, Melker, Martinez, Copeland, and Bergman will all probably get to QC before short season starts.
I dont see Garcia at Batavia (either as a catcher or an outfielder). He didn’t get a ST invite which means the club doesn’t think he is ready yet to compete against older players. I think he is JC bound and most likely there for the whole year.
Tartamella will either go to EST or get released.
QC catching corp is full, Stock, Stanley and Castillo. Castillo really impressed the Batavia manager last year and mentioned him in an interview. the organization isn’t giving up on Stock and Stanley looks good too. QC has there catchers.
I’m a bit surprised to see Boone Whiting relegated to the pen. His K to BB ratio was an astronomical 13.6 last year…and his K/9 inn was 11.33
Also a little surprised – but who do you replace? Maybe out of the pen they think he will get more velocity (and possibly even a better K/9 ratio).
I might replace Ferrara or Siegrist. I dunno.
Ferrea deserves a shot, he pitched well last year before hurting his groin. He was highly thought of when we drafted him.
QC has a very interesting roster. I’ll have to catch that game at Busch.
It is an interesting roster. For long term potential that’s the best outfield in the system.
Any word on Bryant & Dodd (high school OF’ers drafted in 2010) and if they will be coming to ext ST Camp?
Bryant and Dodd will return to the Gulf Coast team.
Here is an interesting article regarding Matt Adams from a local newspaper close to his home town. For those of you that are fans of Matt’s, enjoy.

Nice article. I didn’t realize Adams had so much success at “Junction City.” (I think that’s in the Parallel Dimension Rookie League, although I could be mistaken.)
6’3″, 255 pounds. Wowza, we ladies love a burly man.
I saw that Iden Nazario was invited to EST, and I haven’t seen anything about him being released. Is anything known about him at this point? He showed some improvement over the course of the Appy League season and has me intrigued now…
I think Pat Biserta will be movin up from Batavia had a good season last year, drafted as a juinor higher than all the senior signs at batavia right now.
