That’s a pretty strong middle of the order in QC. It’s very nice to see Oscar sporting some power and plate discipline early on when most thought he’d need some time to adjust to full season ball.

    • Cards fan in Chitown #2 says:

Agreed and excited about it! Oscar is tearing it up! A lot of people say we have no power in the system, which isn’t entirely incorrect, but with him and Matt Adams, we could have a couple of 30 HR potential guys. We need to keep in mind how young Oscar actually is also.

I was aat the QC games. Taveras has a rep for being a free swinger……not even close he takes more pitchs for balls than anyone else on the field. That shows me he has a reallly good eye, in fact on the b alls he doesnt swing at he follows the ball to the glove and then looks at the Ump for the call. It’s actually pretty funny. All 3 of his RBI’s last night were with 2 outs. He really seems to step up when it’s needed. First game he lived over the SS’s outstretched hands for his first hit, then the homerun to right field. Lined out hard to hte left fielder and K’d.

Second game he walked first 2 AB’s was called out on strikes and singles past the 2b to tie the game in the 6th.

I believe he’s the best position player on the field the whole weekend.

BTW Juan Castillo has some talent, hit the ball very hard 2 times and showed a good arm.

Love these game updates from in person…nice.

Did you see Arcia play for Beloit? He and Taveras were probably the top 2 OFs in the Appy league last year…wondering what he looked like compared to Taveras…more bat, less all-around athleticism?

And why is Taveras playing LF?

      • Andrew says:

Arica was there number 3 or 4 hitter I believe. Lefty also looks like a solid athlete, he may have been the guy that doubled/E7 off Rosenthal in the first game.

IMO-Taveras was lightyears better than any non pitcher on the field the whole weekend.

    • Matt says:

Idk about Taveras’ reputation, but you say he follows the ball to the glove and looks at the umpire? Almost sounds to me like he’s taking for the sake of taking. I don’t want to over-analyze, but when I watch a guy with plate discipline, he’s able to pick out the balls from the strikes as they are coming. By your description, it sounds like he’s guessing. Maybe insignificant, but anybody else with me on that?

      • cariocacardinal says:

Understand, but that assumes he trusts the umpire. Not sure all the umpires in the lower levels are that good.

      • Andrew says:

He’s not guessing trust me, he’ just follows the ball well. I’m guessing at some point he got into the habit of watching the ball the whole time. Some of the balls are close so its not taking just to take. Any question about what I saw this weekend just ask.

BTW I went to all 4 games this week.

  3. Kdizzle says:

Oscar Taveras was just pulled from the Quad Cities game after going 2 for 2 with a home run.

    Is he hurt?

  4. JBCardsFan says:

This system is loaded with good pitchers.

Starters: Miller, C Martinez, Swagerty, Rosenthal, Gast, Lynn, Dickson, Additon, Hooker, Blair

Relievers: Sanchez, Salas, Mulligan, Reifer, King

Jury still out but still high upside pitchers: Cleto, Joe Kelly

How about the Cards start drafting some power bats? I’d put a premium on them the next 2 years over pitchers.

  5. Andrew says:

Power bats……….Oscar Taveras and Matt Adams.

    • Hugecardsfan says:

Cody Stanley doesn’t appear to be a slouch either. Longmire may have a little power as well.

    • JBCardsFan says:

Matt Adams has me very excited. He could be our future 1B. When the organization wants Albert Pujols to take a separate trip to minor league camp just to meet with a kid (here, Matt Adams), then you know he has some enormous potential.

  6. Andrew says:

Stanley hits the ball very solidly…….I’m very worried about Longmire and don’t think he will hit well in Quad Cities unless they really work on his swing.

  7. Andrew says:

    Not at all…..
