With all the postponed games due to rain yesterday, I’m somewhat taking a shot in the dark at the starters. It looks like both Springfield and QC are going with double headers today. No clear indication when Memphis is making up there game though I think I RT’d something about it yesterday.

Memphis @ Iowa, 7:05pm: Lance Lynn

Springfield v. Frisco, 3:05pm: Deryk Hooker
Springfield v. Frisco, TBD: Michael Blazek
(Note: Kevin Thomas is going to slot back into the rotation at some point after his rash clears up — that sounds awful — but I’m sure I will miss the day he reappears in a “Probable Starters” post so bear with me.)

Palm Beach @ Jupiter, 5:35pm: Joe Kelly

Quad Cities vs. Burlington, 5:00pm: Jordan Swagerty Seth Blair – Mixed up my ASU starters.
Quad Cities vs. Burlington, TBD: Anthony Ferrara

Swagerty just pitched on Thursday, you are thinking of the other high-round pick out of Arizona State currently in the QC rotation……Seth Blair.

  2. Kdizzle says:

Looks like both QC games have been postponed. Water drainage problem if I were to hazard a guess.

With games being weathered out, some stand-in news from somebody else’s farm system, that’s tragic beyond mere inability of a prospect to develop: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/post/nationals-dominican-prospect-yerwi-guillen-dies-of-bacterial-meningitis/2011/04/16/AF5je6lD_blog.html
We sometimes forget that these “prospects” are young men with their whole lives before them, and it’s a tragedy to see one ended so prematurely, regardless of whose system he was in or how good he might have been. Sympathies to the family and his friends in the system.

ugh. bacterial meningitis is a nasty disease. kills a bunch of college students every year. presents like a really bad case of the flu, and some people don’t get treatment (or their condition is misdiagnosed) until it’s too late.

Did robinson and brown collide with each other?

Is it ok to be that guy that asks 3 questions in one post?? ok, good, thanks

    1) Has anyone heard any update on Taveras?? I hope the kid gets healthy and is our #3 ranked prospect next year (behind CMart and Shelby)

    2) Is there anyway to find EST stats? Curious to know how CMart has been pitching

    3) ESanchez is tearing it up in the bigs….. regardless if he retires or doesn’t, Franklin won’t be the closer next year right?!

  6. Andrew says:

1.On DL for 2 weeks could be more.

2.I don’t think they keep them or post them.

3.Not sure what they do with Franklin.

    • Cards Fan in Chitown #2 says:

Can always count on ya Andrew.

As a futureredbird fan, let’s all pray Taveras gets back and healthy shortly, not a Zcox fan so Taveras is without a doubt my favorite position prospect (MAdams is a close second, might be my favorite if AP leaves)

Who would you rank as our top 5 position prospects who could actually be stars in the MLB?

      1) Taveras
      2) Adams
      3) Longmire???
      4) Ryan Jackson??? (it’s early I know)
      5) ???

    • cariocacardinal says:

      !. Ditto
      2. Oh, they keep them.
      3. Franklin is a FA after the season, makes the choices much easier.

      • Cards Fan in Chitown #2 says:

Any idea where I could find the stats?? Dying to know how Martinez is pitching. One would have to assume that Franklin is done after this year right?! If we had a closer that didn’t blow 3 saves in the first week, we could be 11-4….. sounds much better than 8-7 don’t ya think…..

        • cariocacardinal says:

They used to release them several years ago. The last few years they have been a closely guarded secret. At some point Vuck will probably give an interview where he talks about what players have been standing out.

Franklin has indicated he might be willing to come back as a set up man. I doubt though if he we will pay him as much as some other teams to do that.

          • cariocacardinal says:

If save percentage is your gauge. Franklin has been one of the league leaders over the last couple of years. He may very well return to that standard before the season is over.

      • Andrew says:

Would love access to the EST stats. Does Vuch give them to Goold at the Post and he puts themout and they just haven’t done it this year yet?

  7. Andrew says:

    Stars or quality MLB players?

Let’s just go really good players.

    1. Taveras
    2. Adams
    3. Ryan Jackson
    4. Rapheal Rosario
    5. Longmire
    6. Michael Swinson

Are top 6 talentwise in my opinion. Or have the talent level to be a really good major league players if they reach their ceilings.

  8. Cards Fan in Chitown #2 says:

Swinson is not someone I’m very familiar with, going to BR after sending this to inquire, but what do you know about him?

Would you agree that in the first couple rounds this year we need to take high ceiling position players? Unless somehow a LH starter that isn’t expected to be available is there

  9. Andrew says:

Swinson is about 6’3 180 plays all over the outfield, can fly and has a great arm, strong bat too. His manager raved about his tools last year even though his overall stats were down. A true 5 tool potential IMO.

Regarding the draft, take best player available if someone falls due to signability. I’m hoping for a Blake Swighart or Josh Bell in the first. There are always players that fall to rounds 2,3 and 4 due to bonus demands. We need to sign these players too. In 09 we picked Robert Stock over Wil Myers, Myers was first round talent and people were shocked he fell. His demands weren’t to great he asked for 2 mil didnt negotiate hard, was with the team working out immediately after being drafted even though he couldn’t sign until the deadline. Last year was Garn Cecchini who was hurt most of last year and fell to the 5th round where the Red Sox signed him for 1.3 mil. He was also projected as being a first rounder his JR year in high school. He got hurt nothing long term and people simply forgot about him.

Either way this is the best strategy to get top notch star talent in our system. It will be needed if we pay Pujols a ton and have to build around him with young good players its also needed if he leaves we awnt to have young exciting stars in the making to make the Cardinals “releveant” again.

  10. Lou Schuler says:

You really think all those guys are going to be better than Cox through their careers?

If it’s just Taveras, okay, I can see that possibility.

Adams came out of a D-II program so I’m pleasantly surprised by the fact he’s torn up every league he’s played in so far. But do you really think a 23rd-round pick is a better overall prospect than a guy who just a year ago was considered the top college hitter available in the draft? Especially a guy with a cannon arm who’s projected to play somewhere other than first base?

I’m excited about Jackson, but we’re talking about a singles-hitting shortstop vs. a middle-of-the-order third baseman.

Rosario and Longmire have each produced spectacularly for one month. Swinson hasn’t even done that (and he’s had plenty of opportunity).

Cox has already shown he can hit at the most competitive level of college ball as well as the Arizona Fall League (after shaking off the rust of sitting out for three months). I don’t get the comparison to these other guys at all.

  11. Andrew says:

I mentioned non-Cox players……cause he was asking about position players other than Cox. I’m not convinced that Cox will be anything but a singles hitter. I think at best he’s a number 2 or 6 hitter not “middle of the order”

He asked about guys with Major League talent and I gave him a list in my opinion.
