Sorry for the delayed start. Was a bit under the weather and was a gametime decision. All is good now, so….

On to the DFR!

Springfield 4, Northwest Arkansas 3

  • Tommy Pham went 1-for-4 with a solo HR.
  • Jose De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a HR and 2 RBI.
  • Nico Vasquez went 2-for-4 with a 2B.
  • Ryan Jackson picked up a H.
  • Nick Additon threw a good game, going 8 IP with 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, and 7 K.
  • Jose Rada blew the lead and only because of the leadoff 2B by Vasquez and squeeze-play by Nick Derba did he poach the win. He threw 1 IP with a solo HR given up.

Palm Beach 4, Fort Myers 3

RiverBandits 7, Wisconsin 5 (Game 1 – 7 innings)

Riverbandits 1, Wisconsin 3 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)

Rosenthal seems to be the chris carpenter of our minor leagues, he gets no run support.

  2. RCHIII says:

Rosenthal gave up 2 runs in the 2nd on 2 ground ball hits, a bunt single and a legit double. 3rd run was on a fly ball single, stolen base, advance on out and a sac fly. So, actual pitching seems better than the line. Seemed to have a hard luck day but closed his line retiring the last 10 he faced, so he seemed to handle the adversity well. Still getting a very good ground ball/fly ball ratio and K’s to BB’s also very solid.

wonder if Mulligan is hurt? They brought Rada in for the save on back to back days. (He blew them both)

They have to find a way to get Juan Castillo more AB’s.

My god I love Trevor rosenthal. He’ll be in florida by the all star break

What’s hilarious is that he’s been unlucky so far.. 22.2 IP, 28K, 5BB 19H – .417 BABIP – If he keeps this up, manages to work deeper into games and that babip regresses.. ridiculous.

      • RCHIII says:

Wish I knew Rosenthal’s pitch count from yesterday. He could only pitch 6 innings due to the short game. In his prior appearances, he has been racking up pitches on foul balls. If/when he gets the change into a true “out” pitch, he’s may be pretty good. Need a refresher, BABIP means the batting average of balls in play, right? And isn’t .300 like the agreed upon par? So, that .417 means the baseball gods owe him a few fielded ground balls, correct?

        • Matt says:

right – numbers out of my butt – cut about 3-4 hits to normalize for ‘expected’ batted-ball outcomes. It just makes an already dominant line look even more dominant.

      • cariocacardinal says:

I think in some minor leagues the BABIP can be as high as .320 (fielders just aren’t as good at getting to balls) but since Trevor has an above avg GB rate, his BABIP is likely to be below average.

    • RCHIII says:

Just gut instinct, I think Rosenthal stays in QC. Good manager. He will just be 21 at the end of May. He is learning as fast as he can, and I’ve heard he has a good synergy with roommate Boone Whiting who is apparently a professorial type of pitcher. I doubt Rosenthal can duplicate Boone’s physics major smarts, but if he can marry his strength to some computer/stat/baseball smarts…….oh boy. Also just gut instinct, for whatever reason, I think he starts in Springfield next year. He has been on the bump enough now, that I feel confident he is going to post some real numbers this summer. But it also depends on how well other guys perform. There has to be room, but someone is knocking on the door.

Anybody have a feel for how much of Kevin Siegrist is real and how much smoke and mirrors. He’s pitched lights out so far.

  6. Andrew says:

No clue really until someone here actually sees him. I haven’t I hope to when I watch them in Peoria next month for a 3 game series.

  7. Brian B says:

Who’s Jose De La Cruz in Springfield is he new? Glad to see my Palm Beach Players winning.

  8. Andrew says:

    It’s Castellanos

  9. RCHIII says:

All I will say about Siegrist is that he has picked up from where he left off last year at JC. Consistency makes a big believer out of me.
