Memphis 10, Round Rock 7
- Freddie Bynum went 2-for-5.
- A nice, if powerless, night for Matt Carpenter who went 3-for-3 with a walk.
- Tony Cruz was 2-for-5 with a grand slam. Cruz is off to a nice start this season with a great OBP (.375) and good power. If he can truly stick at catcher, the bat plays.
- Aaron Luna was 2-for-4 with a HR.
- Brandon Dickson got hit around for 12 hits in 6.2 innings. Dickson struck out 3 and walked 1 while allowing 5 runs.
- Blake King, in one of those scoring quirks, picks up the win despite walking 3 batters and allowing 2 unearned runs. He retired just one batter.
- Victor Marte pitched the last two innings allowing 2 hits and 1 strikeout in a scoreless effort.
Springfield 2, Tulsa 3
- Tommy Pham was 2-for-4 with a double and a HR.
- Alex Castellanos was 2-for-4.
- Scott Schneider had a very good outing striking out 6 and allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits.
- Jesse Simpson struck out 3 in 2 IP. He allowed just 1 hit.
- Jose Rada blew the save late in the game with an ugly outing. He allowed 2 ER and took his second loss (and second blown save) of the young season. He’s been in 8 games for Springfield in 2011 and allowed runs in 6 of them.
Palm Beach 2, Bradenton 1
- Alan Ahmady, an undersized corner outfielder or first baseman, does little other than hit and hit consistently. He went 3-for-4. He’s got a seasonal line of .317/.456/.349.
- Xavier Scruggs was 2-for-4.
- Eric Fornataro scattered 7 hits across 8 innings allowing just 1 ER. Fornataro struck out 6 and tallied 13 groundballs against 4 outs in the air.
Quad Cities 2, Cedar Rapids 0
- Greg Garcia went 2-for-4.
- Kyle Conley was 2-for-3 with a solo HR.
- Oscar Tarveras (hamstring) was reactivated from the DL and went 1-for-3 with a walk.
- Anthony pitched 7 innings of no hit ball striking out 8 and walking just 1.
- Boone Whiting finished off the game with two innings striking out 3 and allowing 2 hits.

Very nice to see Taveras back in the lineup!
This isn’t facebook so I can’t like this, but if I could I would!
DITTO!
Great game at Quad Cities we’ve got a powerhouse of pitchers there… Ferrara looks pretty darned good.
Any chance that Vuch can shed some light on how Carlos Martinez is doing at EST?
great stuff from ferrara and pham is on fire right now…just found this on youtube ..quad cities has game highlights on there for
each game.. pretty neat

Great find!!!!!!
Agreed, Rosenthal is on April 8th, Taveras’s HR’s are on the 9th and 10th and first look at Siegrist is on the 18th. Get to see Taveras’s opposite field bomb i raved about.
IF Ahmady can ever develop any power he could rocket through the syste, His OBP skills are great (he’s been over .400 every year).
I’ve liked Cruz for awhile. Think his athleticism will make a good C. Luna is an OBP machine. I think he’ll be a very good candidate for a MLB spot next year.
Luna is under rated.
Noticed that Luna got HBP for the second time all year yesterday. Same day the pitcher hit two others. Seems that teams are not throwing inside to him this year or his is getting better at moving.
Cario what are your impressions of some of the highlights you have seen? Are they the first look you had at these players?
Didn’t look at that much of it and I don’t fashion myself as that great of a scout. I think getting any real read on any of these players from this type of video is next to impossible even for those who scout for a living. You can possibly pick up little things but things like bat speed seem hard to judge.
Of Pham’s 21 hits this season, he has 5 doubles and 5 homers. The BA (.269) and OBP (.330) are low for a leadoff hitter, but his SLG (.529) and ISO power (.260) are outstanding.
I wonder what Dickson would look like out of the bullpen. He’s got the whole Quad-A pitcher vibe about him where he’ll put up good, but not spectacular numbers and with his stuff, he probably will never get a chance to crack our big league rotation. I wonder if he could pull a Boggs on us with a move to the bullpen, or at least have a better shot at contributing at the ML level.
Don’t recall anything specific but I get the impression Dunc likes Dickson more as a reliever.
Duncan did mention that he thought Dickson had a big league arm this spring.
Good stuff from Derrick Goold in today’s P-D on the power arms in the organization.

I knew Cleto threw hard, but sitting at 96-98 consistently and hitting 97 in the 7th inning is impressive.
That is a good report. It suggests that Martinez is sitting on 96…but says nothing about what he’s doing. Are they playing games against other teams or just working with their own team…and hitters? I’d hate for Martinez to lose half a season of playing time.
Most important is to make sure he’s getting used to America, I’m sure they are helping him learn some English and seeing what secondard pitches he has and working with them if it’s needed. Trust me they aren’t just sitting down there doing nothing with him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl4vJVLPzIc nice footage of the win for quad cities..nice double play from taveras and a monster homerun from conley..he’s got some good power and Ferrara looked dominant..a couple good curveballs shown with some fastballs and i believe a slider on strikeout pitches..have been excited about him really since they drafted him
I really like those games reviews, there are some Batavia game reviews from a few years ago I hope they do that again. BTW that ball that Conley hit, that is A LONG way away The berm looks alot smaller on video but that ball that left the stadium really went along way. Taveras’s opposite field shot on the 10th went almost as far.
