The farm system went 1-3 last night, but good starting pitching continued to be the theme up and down the ranks.

We will look at some more stats next week when the sample sizes get a little larger, but a few days ago the AP wrote a great article on Tyler Henley and his wife.  They basically sound like the perfect couple, who have moved 9 times to follow the baseball dream.  It’s a not often covered angle of the minor league players we cover so diligently.  These are basically kids who have lives and concerns and worries outside of the baseball diamond.  Check out the full article here and the rest after the jump.

Shelby Miller ALERT!

As I type this, Eduardo Sanchez just concluded his sparkling MLB debut by striking out 5 of the 7 batters he faced. While it occurred in a game whose outcome had been decided over an hour earlier, Sanchez still faced Big League hitters and made most (Kelly Johnson included) look foolish.

The Memphis Redbirds relieves Eduardo Sanchez and Fernando Salas are on the way to meet the Cardinals in Arizona to replace Bryan Augenstein and (potentially) Brian Tallet in the Cardinals bullpen per Bernie Miklasz and John Vuch.

One would think that Salas would be the first to get the call and Sanchez will be activated if and only if Tallet goes on the DL.

Eduardo Sanchez’s first appearance will be his MLB debut.

I’m out of pocket for most of the day but the minor league starts bring about other writers as well.

If you’re looking at the username Pierce in the top left-handed corner of today’s DFR, you’re probably wondering who in the world that is. I often wonder the same thing myself.

First of all, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Pierce, and I’ll be helping out with the DFR’s this year. I’m currently working in minor league baseball with the Tulsa Drillers, so I hope to provide a unique perspective throughout the season. When Springfield is in town, I also hope to be sneaking out more often than usual during those games to give a more detailed account of some of the players. The extra innings I use to sneak out in the ballpark during those games may put my current job at risk, but anything to help out the Future Redbirds community, right?? Joking!

I’ll stop boring you with the details and get on to what you’re all really here for….the Daily Farm Report!!

One of the more interesting comments I’ve heard about Bryan Augenstein is that his 6’6″ frame improves the speed of his fastball because it has less distance to travel to the plate.  While that’s true (the ball leaves his hand later traveling a shorter distance and encountering less resistance), it’s likely not a dramatic jump in the final velocity when the ball reaches the plate.  Still, interesting to me nonetheless. So who are the tallest and shortest pitchers in our minor league system?
