Definitely looking forward to seeing how Swagerty fairs against better competition. He has impressed me more than I was leading up to the draft…which is good since Blair has had serious control issues! Wonder if they are working on Blair’s mechanics and he is just not use to it yet which explains his wildness?
dittoes
I saw somewhere (possibly on here?) a comp to Jess Todd. I kind of like that–relatively similar stuff, combo starter/reliever.
It would be great to have a starter like this in the system on up to St Louis: A starter with a bulldog closer mentality.
I sure hope not I think he has alot more talent than Todd did.
I think he’s more of a groundballer as well, and his breaking stuff (from the sounds of it, not seen him yet except a couple of college vids) looks better. Todd’s big problem is too many flyballs and too much stuff up in the zone. That sort of pitching turns into a lot of HR and long doubles in the majors.
the mlb.com pre-draft scouting profile for blair indicated he had command issues and high pitch counts due to “long arm action” or something like that. if they aren’t messing with his mechanics yet, they will probably need to.
looks like a decent high A debut for swags. i guess we can save the stat line for the DFR but you can head over to milb.com if you want to see the results. he’s had an impressive start for someone that the pundits said should be left in the bullpen.
Why would we save it? 5innings 5 hits, 2 runs, 6k’s, More interestingly through 4.2 innings he had only given up 2 hits but gave up a triple and 2 singles before recording the final out of the day.
He also had a 1 hitter through 4, with that hit being a homerun.
A respectable outing. Nice debut.
Bad news in Quad Cities as OF Oscar Taveras is back on the DL afer re-aggavating his hamstring injury. According to Brian Walton on twitter. Too bad he was killing the ball. Hamstrings can be tricky things though so hopefully they let him heal fully before bringing him back.
Put him out there in a wheel chair and let him hit. Then let a fan pinch run for him…sounds like a great minor league promotion to me!
an act of defiance? his hamstring is bored with quad cities?
Crap!
