  1. Dan from FL says:

Taveras, a speedy outfielder who has hit .500 in the 14 games he has played, aggravated a hamstring injury that kept him on the disabled list from April 11-30 during Tuesday’s victory over the LumberKings.

He was placed on the disabled list Wednesday, and according Johnny Rodriguez, will be re-evaluated after 10-to-12 days.

“The pull is not as bad as the first one,” Rodriguez said. “It is the same leg though and it will take some time so we adjust. We’ve done it before.”

Additon just keeps on getting people out. A lot of people said he’d never get past AAA. Read where his manager credited his better success in SPFLD this year to adding a 2 seamer to his 4 seam fastball. One of the real knocks on him was velocity, wouldn’t the 2 seamer even have less velocity?

    • jjray says:

Maybe the thought is that with the lack of vel that he’ll never gain, go with more movement found in the 2 seamer. One would think a soft-tossing lefty has to be as crafty as possible and in our organization, that means a 2 seamer. I remember John Tudor throwing a 4 seamer at a blazing 88 and being effective. He spotted it inside just off the plate after throwing junk away. I wish Nick well and hope he can become a loogy. The Cards always seem to have a need for one of those. Perhaps that’s why we drafted a bushel full of lefties this past draft.

      • Indiana Cardinal says:

Does Additon have the ability to eventually be either a LOOGY or the second lefty in the pen, similar to the position of Tallet?

      • zuke354 says:

Good point on tudor. But also remember, with the huge parks back then you had a larger margin for error.

        • easy says:

Huge parks and arguably the best defensive team in history.

        • jjray says:

True on the how the parks have changed. Trips to Houston were to the Astrodome, not that baseball launching pad they now have. Cincy, completely different. Then again, Tudor came to us from Boston where he had to pitch with a very short fence in right at both Boston and NYY. He had an uncanny ability to move location and keep hitters off his underwhelming stuff.

        • Hugecardsfan says:

Tudor’s greatest strength was his uncanny ability to put the ball right where he wanted it. He kept the hitters off balance. He didn’t need large parks any more than the fastball pitchers did.

          • RCHIII says:

And whenever Tudor found an ump that would give him a strike below the knees, he could throw it there seemingly every time. Never seen anything like it since.

  3. Gruntosaurus says:

It looks like about time to cut bait on Raul Valdes. He’s not even useful organizational filler. Nice to see Additon capably come in and stop the bleeding, though.

  4. PJ says:

    On Kozma–

How has his Defense been this year? He is simply not hitting or showing any power. He is still just 23, but you gotta believe the clock is really ticking for Pete in this system.

  5. easy says:

Suggestion. Could we add an Oscar Taveras daily medical report to the DFR? Anybody hear anything?

    • abe froman says:

from the quad cities newspaper, he re-injured the same hammy but not as bad. he will be re-evaluated in 10-12 days.

my guess is they give him plenty of time. hamstring injuries can linger for a long time.

  6. shaneo69 says:

Apparently the Philly writer who was at the PB game to watch Oswalt pitch really ripped Cox’ defense at 3B, per Goold’s article this morning.

  7. shaneo69 says:

Juan Castillo up to replace Perez and catch at PB instead of Cody Stanley…interesting.

    • Forsch31 says:

It could be that because this is Stanley’s first full year, they rather have him be the starter in QC for now rather than the backup in PB.

    • cariocacardinal says:

I’ve touted Castillo as the best catching prospect in the system for a long time. Maybe now he will get sufficient playing time to prove it. Regardless, on reason for moving Castillo is his minor league FA clock. Since he was signed at 16 he is now in his 5th season. Pretty sure after 2012 he will be a minor league FA if not on the 40 man roster. To that end, he needs to move up several levels over the next couple of years for the team to make a decision.

      • Andrew says:

I think with LA free agents there 6 years start when they get to America, not when we sign them.

        • cariocacardinal says:

99% positive they have the same 6 years as American signees. The only difference is that US minor leaguers actually get 7 years while LA FA’s usually only get 6 becuase they dont play their first year until after the year they sign.

          • Andrew says:

If true that sucks because i thought the whole part of the LA thing is to get them real young when they turn 16. Can’t honestly expect some of these guys to get up that soon. 22 is still very young to be breaking into the bigs.

            • cariocacardinal says:

They dont have to break in to the bigs, they just have to be on the 40 man roster. They then have 3 years after that with options.

  8. rob says:

castillo goes from being backup at QC to starter at PB. we got Tudor from the Pirates not Boston

  9. garra says:

Why Frederick Parejo was released for Cardinals?
