They dont have to break in to the bigs, they just have to be on the 40 man roster. They then have 3 years after that with options.

If true that sucks because i thought the whole part of the LA thing is to get them real young when they turn 16. Can’t honestly expect some of these guys to get up that soon. 22 is still very young to be breaking into the bigs.

99% positive they have the same 6 years as American signees. The only difference is that US minor leaguers actually get 7 years while LA FA’s usually only get 6 becuase they dont play their first year until after the year they sign.

I think with LA free agents there 6 years start when they get to America, not when we sign them.

castillo goes from being backup at QC to starter at PB. we got Tudor from the Pirates not Boston

I’ve touted Castillo as the best catching prospect in the system for a long time. Maybe now he will get sufficient playing time to prove it. Regardless, on reason for moving Castillo is his minor league FA clock. Since he was signed at 16 he is now in his 5th season. Pretty sure after 2012 he will be a minor league FA if not on the 40 man roster. To that end, he needs to move up several levels over the next couple of years for the team to make a decision.

It could be that because this is Stanley’s first full year, they rather have him be the starter in QC for now rather than the backup in PB.
