Smoke and mirrors may be fair but I'd add control. The kid can pitch. You can't start 8 games and carry a 1.29 ERA without being able to pitch. I doubt he's going to fall apart at Palm Beach.

He sounds a little bit like Copeland. And they performed comparably at JC last year. I say promote until the hitters catch up with them. I'm not sure the Cards see it that way or not. Siegrist had earned the next promotion to PB in my opinion. If he doesn't get it, then you have an idea what the Cards think of him.

I wouldn't call it smoke and mirrors, he threw 90-91 consistently when I saw him pitch but he got guys out and people didn't hit the ball very hard against him. It's weird because it looks like he should throw harder because hes big and sturdy at 6'5

Over at BP, Kevin Goldstein refers to him in today's column as a "smoke-and-mirror lefty" and says his FB rarely climbs above the 80s. It'll be interesting to see what Siegrist does at higher levels against better competition.

Frankly, at this point I'd rather he was out for long enough to get the durn thing 100% healed, rather than hurry him back. He's still young and has plenty of time to reach the Show. Pressing him to do so ASAP may create a risk of this condition becoming chronic, and that would be baaaaad.

I would like to see a Siegrist report too. All the guy does is consistently perform. Nobody has talked about any head spinner pitches he has from what I have seen, but the guy obviously has outstanding control.

He was our best middle-infield prospect since Pablo Ozuna in 1998, who was MWL MVP with a .357 BA and 62 SB in what was allegedly his age-19 season. BA called him the #1 prospect in the league, ahead of Rick Ankiel and AJ Burnett.

Fortunately, we traded him to Florida before anyone knew he was actually 35.
