What’s the story with Sam Freeman. I know they were pretty high on him before he had TJ surgery, what’s his aresenal like? Is he more than a LOOGY? It would be nice to have a LH out of the pen that could get som RH hitters out. He’s having a nice season so far in S’Field.
Looks like Freeman gets right handed hitters out.
vs. Right .120 avg
vs. Left .400 avg
still a 0.82 era

Castellanos is sure loving the Texas league he’s finding many of those doubles off the wall are making it over the fence here.
HR per AB
29.57 in 2008
60.67 in 2009
35.31 in 2010
12.91 in 2011
It’s takes about 300 PA for HR rate to be significant in a sample size.
Donovan Solano is doing a solid job once getting regular playing time with Kozma gone.
Last 12 games
14 for 45 .311
1 HR
1 3B
7 2B
I’ve gotta say, since TLR seems committed to this Allen Craig at 2nd base thing, I’d rather see a full time defense first shortstop on the team for the rest of the season.
And I’d really have no problem if they just went ahead and brought a guy like Solano or Ryan Jackson up for the remainder, hit them eighth, and go from there.
If given a choice of course, mine would be Jackson though.
I don’t think he’s much of a prospect, but I wonder how long the club can let andrew brown linger in memphis.
Not much else they can do really.
Whenever we make a deal Jay and Craig will be one of our main commodities along with Boggs of our big league level talent and I could see them moving Craig and letting Brown take the Craig role. Brown would have a far better prospect profile if he hasn’t been so unlucky with injuries. He’s hit HR and walked in the minors at a better rate better than Craig and is just as versatile and is actually almost 2 months younger.
His 2010 and 2011 combined numbers would make one hell of a year.
137 Games
150 for 487 .308
62 Walks to 132 Strike Outs
23 Doubles
2 Triples
30 Home Runs
95 RBI
The problem is that I don’t think (or, at least, I haven’t heard or seen any evidence) that Brown is as versatile defensively as Craig. For example, Craig can play 2B (allegedly) and Brown has been terrible defensively at 1B in his minor league career. That’s a big difference.
Of course, if Brown is ok in the outfield, and Craig can play 2B next year, then it opens up the opportunity for a Jay/Brown platoon to replace Berkman (assuming he leaves via FA).
The Cards seem to have more guys than normal coming out of nowhere (relatively) and having big offensive years and showing a lot of power who have questionable ceilings. Would be interesting to see a prospect feature looking at some of these guys (Brown, Castellanos, Adams).
Two words…. MARK HAMILTON!!!
What has got into this guy since he came back from the ML’s. Looks like he was learning something when he was up there.
A .472 avg and 1.212 ops since coming back WOW!!!

Too bad the Mets or Padres the 2 biggest sellers don’t need any help at first for the future because Memphis isn’t big enough for both Hamilton or Adams.
Who do the Padres have at first? Hawpe? He’s got a six million dollar option for next year and a .298 wOBA this season. I think the padres need all the prospects/ML ready talent they can get, including 1b help
The Pads have A. Rizzo – who’s a better prospect than anyone the Cards could trade and is only biding his time in the minors until the possibility of him being a Super 2 is passed. Rizzo came from the Red Sox in the AGon trade.
Rizzo is indeed having a heckuva breakout season in AAA. But his numbers from the previous couple years, while good, weren’t overwhelming… .
So that would totally mean they would take Mark Hamilton then?
Awesome.
Rizzo is a highly valued prospect and much younger than Hamilton to boot.
Maybe we should aks what Hamilton taught Brown when he cam back. In that same time frame, Brown’s OPS is 1.404!
It does appear that some of these guys will be gone in the future. If you just look at the outfield, there are a bunch that are playing well, and continue to play well, and no room to move.
Cleto continues to impress. Cox just keeps hitting and his walk rate has been great for the past month.
I’m not sure Craig would be traded unless the deal was great for the cards. I really think he may be our full time 2B next seasOn
Or 1st baseman….
I agree, that Craig will be the starting 2b next year. I love Jay in the role they use him in now, but believe he will be the one to go. Iwould like them to explore a trade with an AL team for some of these hitting 1b prospects, with the current fad of those teams playing cheaper, more versatile type DHs
Most teams have two or three similar guys – slightly old, defensively-challenged guys in the high minors who can hit AA and AAA pitching very well. I don’t think Hamilton, Brown and Castellanos have any real value, and I don’t think Adams would bring back anything significant.
We also have to bear in mind that Memphis and Springfield both play in very good offensive environments.
Is Castellanos defensively challenged? And what if these guys can also hit major league pitching?
Castlellanos seems to have good D and hit well in FSL also.
WHat happen to Matt Adams? 5 hit game has not played since.
He has an oblique injury and is being rested to heal rather than risking something more serious.
Thanks
At the redbirds game. Andrew brown is smaller than I would have thought. Moustakas has a pretty swing. Matt carPenter just basket caught a pop up
Andrew brown is a terrible outfielder
Any chance on a profile of Kevin Siegrist? Really good numbers this year – probably should be promoted to Palm Beach soon
