Congratulations of Lance Lynn and Makial Cleto for making their big league debuts.  No matter the result, the fact that both lived out their dreams is always the most important part.

As for Cleto, talent or not, this organization is in constant contradiction with itself.  Allen Craig, who may be carrying this club offensively right now, by all measures could have outperformed both Mark DeRosa and Pedro Feliz.  And yet, instead of calling him up and letting him work through whatever growing pains he (and by example Cleto) had, we shipped 2 of our 3 best young bullpen arms at the time to Cleveland.  I just hope that Cleto is the opening of a door that allows the club to perhaps bring up players a bit less conservatively than in the past.

The last two games are waiting to be uploaded. Just waiting on some wifi-ey goodness to allow it.

Allen Craig cannot field 3B on a regular basis, why we had to trade for DeRosa.

    • mizzcards says:

Ok… umm… Allen Craig is not why we traded for Derosa…. At the time he was not ready to be called up to play 3rd.

  3. GL says:

But he can start @ 2B and learn that on the fly at the MLB level?

  4. Really wish Andrew Brown or Anderson would have got the call up,instead of Cleto. If Brown’s swing plays in the majors at all, there may be some trade value. He’s killing it at AAA, why not a shot?

    • Travis F says:

Is Brownon the 40 man roster? Besides, they needed someone conditioned to be a starter to back up Lynn last night. The bullpen was tired and Lynn was starting on three days rest. With all the injuries they are having a bit of difficulty with the 40 man right now.

  5. Travis F says:

I think guys like Jay and Craig, Salas and Sanchez have paved the way for a little more agressiveness with young guys. We are going to need effective cost controlled young guys to play well when we re-sign Pujols next year. The young arms are showing well and the young hitters haven’t been too bad either.

I still think the Cleto move had everything to do with needing someone who could take some innings in a beating. They didn’t want to sacrifice Lynn or Boggs if it went south.

There’s a rumor Matt Carpenter being called up. I think he is better then Cox in defensively and hits well. Reading your notes above. Did Craig get traded ? That’s crazy

  7. VolsnCards5 says:

Let me say this again. Andrew Brown is a terrible outfielder

  8. mizzcards says:

As reported by @JoeStrauss Matt Carpenter, Mark Hamilton up for Cards http://bit.ly/ipSJm6

Other rumor is that Matt Adams is being promoted to AAA as well with the Hamilton call up taking place.

Its crazy how differently these two minor league players are viewed by the fans who follow our minors. Player A who is older and limited to one position while having lower numbers is widely viewed as the better asset and by some a future MLB starter.

    Player A
    Born 07/29/1984
    1.061 OPS in 2011
    .281/.366/.481/.846 career

    Player B
    Born 09/10/1984
    1.073 OPS in 2011
    .281/.369/.502/.871 career

    • Tackle Box says:

I’m not sure 43 days is exactly “older”.

      • RichardRich says:

One day is good enough to be called older isn’t it? But that’s not the point, the point is how many view Hamilton as a big trade chip or a replacement for Albert if he leaves but view Brown as basic minor league filler.

        • Felonius_Monk says:

who views hamilton as a “big trade chip”? I don’t think that’s a view I’ve seen very often. I think most anyone who knows much about MiLB knows these are two guys at the weak end of the defensive spectrum who offer bats that are probably going to be average-ish or a tick above in MLB – basically, guys which every team has one or two of in their minor league system.

          • RichardRich says:

I don’t think its proper to call out the people by name but glance back over the last week to 10 days and it will be clear, but I agree with your assessment on where they stand.

  10. RichardRich says:

Its sad that they count these as Homers in Memphis, its 360 in the alley no telling how short it is to where that landed.
