Kenny Peoples-Walls – SS

Westchester HS, CA

Height: 6’1″
Weight: 175lbs
DOB: 08/16/1993
Bats: R
Throws: R

From Baseball America:

Middle infielder Kenny Peoples is not as fast as Henry, but he has above-average speed and a knack for making contact. He’s a bit undersized and has below-average power, but he has good hand-eye coordination, which helps him hit despite a swing that fails to utilize his lower half effectively. While he plays shortstop in high school, scouts agree that his range, arm strength and actions fit better at second. Peoples lacks polish and has questionable instincts, but his athleticism and chance for an average bat should get him drafted between the seventh and 12th rounds.

Per Perfect Game:

KENNY PEOPLES-WALLS, ss, Westchester HS, Los Angeles

Athletic 6-1/175 SS, late pop-up on draft boards; intriguing speed/power mix; hit .414-5-23, stole 14 bags.

That sounds like a real conservative pick, which is strange. Doesn’t sound like much to like there. 7th-12th rounder picked in the 4th round? Does not sound SS depth at all.

I really like this pick for some reason. the more i research him the more i like him

One says below average power, the other says intriguing speed/power.

Hate that they say he probably doesn’t stick at SS more than anything. Really focused on up the middle talent and athleticism. I need to research more before I make too definitive of a judgment since I had never heard of the kid.

BA says undersized. The other site say 6’1″. Which is it? You would have to think the Cardinals think he can play short stop since we already drafted a 2B and two CFs. Are we theme drafting this year? Small, top of the order hitter, surprising power for size, good speed…..

    • Tackle Box says:

Wong is light years ahead of any 4th round high school shortstop. These two won’t be taking at bats away from each other at the same level any time soon.

  5. Shanky says:

Sounds like an overdraft. Umm. . .are we gonna draft anyone that can hit the ball over the infielders’ heads?

  6. Jeff says:

I fixed the video links in the post. Both are valid now.

  7. ALA says:

He has plenty of talent. Many people are under rating him. He is a contact hitter that can hit the ball far on some occasions. I currently attend the same school as Kenny. He is so committed to being a professional player. He can hit for power and contact.

  8. MsPratt says:

He’s the total package! Academically exceptional, thinks critically, communicates effectively and athletically gifted and talented. The young man has HEART!!! Watch out MLB…

  9. Sandra Lodge says:

We love you and very proud of you. We are a family who pray together, stay’s together. Pray first and hit the ball. Love Cousin Sandra Lodge & Family.

Same high school as OF Brian Barton, with the Cards in 2008.
