got it. That makes a bit more sence.

I kind of see it fromt he other angle. A mid draft pick is a good spot for a LH with a good slider.

Oh, i agree. But if Tallet is the UPSIDE, it’s an underwhelming pick, and given Tallet’s had his best season as a starter and this kid is a reliever ALREADY, I think it’s very unlikely he gets there. Tallet is a replacement-level reliever so really all we’re adding here is a likely organisational player. Nothing wrong with that but it’s a bit boring in round 8.

I don’t mind picking a guy we think is an advanced pure LOOGY at 8. But this guy looks like he needs to make major strides to either become a LOOGY or a replacement-level swingman type. Low floor AND low ceiling.

Tallet has had parts of 9 seasons in the big league.

Seriously. If This kids dulicates Tallet’s career, its a home run for an 8th round pick.

But other posters are right. Lefties do not rely on speed. He does need a good slider though.

His slider is good. He just has trouble throwing it for actual strikes. It’s one of those sweeping sliders that moves away from and down from lefties.

If he does improve the command to where he can throw it for strikes, he has the talent to be a competent LOOGY.

Canes fans just couldn’t wait to get a new closer because he didn’t have the stuff to get out right handed hitters for the more talented teams, such as the NCAA tournament.

Trevor Miller…not sure what we see in him. He came into the game in the 9th against Florida in a close game and I just turned to my wife and said, “We just lost.”

We did.

Tallet also sucks. If Brian Tallet is this kid’s ceiling it’s a pretty underwhelming pick. I’m hopeful he can be a competent LOOGY but you don’t normally pick LOOGYs in the top 10 rounds I’d have thought, and it doesn’t sound like he has stuff that would be especially hard on lefties unless his slider is better than advertised.

A lot of lefties are in the 80s. Tallet has a hard time breaking 85.
