In the 2+ years that I’ve been running the site, I think I’ve banned one or two people. Periodically, the site freaks out and tells all the visitors (including me) that it has banned them. I’ve deactivated the widget that handles IP banning in the hopes that you won’t get the faulty message anymore (and that I won’t get the subsequent e-mail about how you’ve been banned — I’ve gotten about a dozen in the last two weeks).

The downside is that if I get some real trolls visiting with the IP ban turned off, I won’t have a way to deal with that. Should that happen, and I hope it won’t, I’ll have to reactivate the widget and try to find a separate workaround.

Sorry if you’ve been inconvenienced with the ban message recently.  It’s not you; it’s me.

Well, this should help Shoeless Joe if he ever stops by….

I wouldn’t stress it Azru. The regulars know the drill with the “you are banned” message. For the rest we can look at it as an initiation ritual.
