Refresh my memory on Hector Hernandez. After the numbers he put up at JC last year, I guess I’m a little surprised to see him get the opening day nod.
10th Rdr from 2009 draft that is a lefty and has upside from the Puerto Rico Academy. At draft time he was 6’1″ and 200ish lbs and had a sinking FB that sat in the upper 80s and hit 90-91 at times. He also had a good CB and the makings of a good CH. His command was very good and was known as a smart pitcher. He also had good mechanics. He is 20 yrs old and his stats indicated he regressed from 2009 to 2010 though he was in different leagues those 2 years. Haven’t seen anything written on him since. I remember I was high on the pick when we made it for the round we got him in.
Really like Hector Hernandez. His CB from the left side is a good one.
Hernandez started slowly in the Puerto Rican league and then threw about 4 of 5 outstanding games.

I just follow the draft prospect and draft as much as I follow the Cards farm system. I was a huge fan of the Hernandez pick when we made it. To me one of the highest (if not the highest) upside LH starters in the system.

i think anyone that is eligible to be drafted but is not selected becomes a free agent until they go back to school.
Brandon Dickson was the same. College junior passed over in the draft, able to sign with anyone. No team controls his rights.
