I think the other thing they are looking at is you would be replacing AP’s bat with a singles hitter with no power if you did that with Jay and they already have to many singles hitters in the line up. That is why Hamilton gets a shot.

You have to keep in mind one of the reasons Hamilton looked so bad is because he was taking too many 1st and 2nd pitches for strikes in his AB’s and the majority of his AB’s were as a pinch hitter against the other teams closer after he had sat on the bench the whole game. That’s not much of a way to get adjusted to ML pitching and break in to the big leagues.

I say play him full time as a make or break chance. If he struggles, in 10-14 days you have Craig or Freese coming back and you can adjust. If he performs, you significantly strengthen your off season position with regards to bargaining with Pujols and Berkman. Worse case there would be a worthy trade chip.

Wow that sounds like a terrible idea to me, They need to play Jay over a soon to be 27 year old unproven player with a .317 OPS and tons of K’s in his limited time. Jay can hit LHP has a .304 career BA and helps the OF defense dramatically with Lance being such a butcher out there,

Thats crazy to me because before this they were talking about trying to get Jay playing time. Now that a situation occurs where he will get a shot to be a regular they still keep him as a 4th OF and play Hamilton at 1b? I do like the kid getting a legit chance I just don’t think it will be good for the team.

Who knows if Craig will even be healthy enough to play while Albert is out?

I think I’d focus more on how to use best utilize the healthy players currently on the roster. But that’s me.
