Starting him at QC. Love the aggressiveness.

Friggin awesome. He’s going straight to quad cities. They can use his bat. Love that we signed our first round pick in June.

  3. Zach says:

Great news – get him into the system and let him go!

Bonus is either right at or a little over slot $ for that pick #.

  5. Travis F says:

Love it. Cannot wait to see what he can do.

+1, great to have our first rd pick sign this early, with a guy like Wong, the earlier he starts his pro career, the better! Hope he is able to move fairly quickly and in a few years become an above average mlb 2nd baseman!

Goold says deal isn’t done but I suspect that’s more of the paperwork isn’t signed. Sounds like there’s a generally agreed to principle for the deal. I’d expect “official” word in the before July.

Ghostrider is killing it today. He was first to scoop the Batista news over at VEB

Mo says that no deal has been reached.

    Great news.

In case no one has mentioned *exactly* how impressive Wong’s 2011 season was, according to collegesplits.com, Wong had the second-highest adjusted OPS in all of division one baseball.

First basemen, outfielders, everybody—Wong was number two, with a park & schedule-adjusted line of .455/.548/.670.

Moreover, in February + March, Wong had a fine 10/11 ratio of walks to whiffs…but in April/May, the guy drew 32 free passes and struck out a grand total of 9 times.

Last summer in the Cape Cod League (where KW was the MVP, of course), Wong posted an OPS about 250 points above the league. I mean, by my quick math, the league hit a paltry .232/.315/.310; Kolten batted .341/.426/.452….so even his isolated power was substantially better than his wood-bat league-mates (.111 to .078).

Oh, and Wong stole 22 bases in 44 games on the Cape, as well. Pretty impressive for a guy with “average speed,” no?

Of everyone drafted this year, I’d say Wong has the best chance of any to win an MLB batting title—with some homers and steals, to boot. ;)

news cast kept referring to QC as hi A; even Wong, i think, called it that. funny to hear Wong say he looks forward to hi A because he wanted to show them he was ready for the challenge, instead of starting lower. whoops.

Not surprised he starts in Quad Cities. Seems that is where they put their early round guys, Didn’t Wallace and Luna star there as well?

It’s great to see a kid who’s about playing the game rather than “showin’ the money”…. I think it’s smart of the team to get it done and put the kid out there to play. Why burn half a season foolin’ around for a few bucks.

Keep in mind I’m looking at guys latter on in the draft. Mu hope is that all the top picks will sign. Also of note I noticed the Cards signed Scott Bittle the other day as a free agent. Had they released him?

  14. Andrew says:

WHere did you see that at? I hadn’t got any word that they released him.
