Hitting:
- Adron Chambers went 3-for-3 w/ 2 RBI and 1 BB, he was the offensive star of the game for the Redbirds
- Bryan Anderson went 1-for-3 w/ 1 R and 1 BB
- Freddie Bynum went 1-for-3 w/ 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, and 1 BB
Pitching:
- Nick Additon started and went 5.0 innings, included in those innings were 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, and 5 K
- Cory Rauschenberger could not hold the lead and took the loss: 2.0 IP, 3 H, and 2 R
- Bryan Augenstein closed the game out with a scoreless inning that included 1 BB and 1 K
Hitting:
- Ryan Jackson went 1-for-4 w/ 1 2B, 1 R, and 2 RBI
- Matt Adams went 2-for-5 w/ 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, and 3 RBI
- Alex Castellanos continues to hit, he went 3-for-5 w/ 1 2B, 1 SB, and 1 R, his slash line coming into the game was .319/.371/.560
- Eric Duncan went 2-for-5 w/ 2 HR, 2 R, and 4 RBI
- Last but not least, Chris Swauger went 2-for-4 w/ 1 2B and 1 R
Pitching:
- Michael Blazek rebounded from two consecutive terrible starts to turn in a good performance: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R (1 ER), 3 BB, and 7 K
- Chase Reid backed him up with 2.0 scoreless innings, they included 1 H and 2 K
Hitting:
- Alan Ahmady went 3-for-4 w/ 1 2B, 1 BB, and 3 R
- Xavier Scruggs continued his hot streak by going 2-for-4 w/ 1 2B, 1 R and 1 RBI
- Rainel Rosario went 1-for-4 w/ 1 BB, 1 R, and 2 RBI
- Adam Melker went 2-for-4 w/ 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, and 2 RBI
- Niko Vasquez is trying to get it going, he went 3-for-4 w/ 1 2B and 2 RBI
Pitching:
- Jordan Swagerty turned in a dominating performace: 6.0 IP, 5 H, and 8 K
- Chris Corrigan and Jesse Simpson were not very good in relief but….
- Aaron Terry was, he went 1.0 scoreless inning that included 2 H and 1 K
Hitting:
- Michael Swinson went 1-for-2 w/ 1 2B and 2 BB
- John Rodriguez was the only other significant contributer in the lineup, he went 2-for-4 w/ 1 2B, 1 R, and 2 RBI
Pitching:
- Carlos Martinez continues to succeed: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, and 7 K
- Ryan Copeland gave up 1 R in his 2.0 IP, that inning also included 2 H and 1 K
- Aidan Lucas blew the save in the ninth in walk off fashion: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, and 1 K
Hitting:
- Romulo Ruiz hit a 2 R shot in his 4 PA
- David Medina went 2-for-4 w/ 1 2B and 1 R
- Virgil Hill went 1-for-4 w/ 1 2B
Pitching:
- Justin Edwards got the start and went 2.0 scoreless innings which included 2 H, 2 BB, and 4 K
- Andrew Benes and Corey Baker were meh…Baker took the loss
- Ricky Martinez pitched the final inning: 1.0 IP, 2 H, and 1 K
Hitting:
- Matthew Williams went 3-for-5 w/ 1 R and 1 RBI from his SS position
- Ronard Castillo went 1-for-4 w/ 1 3B, 1 R, and 2 RBI
- Gary Apelian, David Bergin, and Jesus Montero (not that Jesus Montero) all singled
Pitching:
- Eduardo Hiraldo got the start and went 5.0 innings that included 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, and 2 K
- Roberto Canache relieved and gave up 3 H and 1 R in his 1.2 IP
- Heath Wyatt came in and shut down the Astros: 1.1 IP, 1 BB, and 4 K
- Eric Binder walked 1 in an otherwise perfect inning

Hammons Field is turning into one of the premier hitters park in all the minors, with 4 more jacks tonight it ups the HR per game to 2.95 this year in 37 games and the teams over this 5 game home stand have 24 HR, 88 runs and 129 hits and seen the leagues ERA leader and Mr Miller have good starts over that period.
Our Jesus Montero is actually the brother of THE Jesus Montero. Maybe they can do a Parent Trap type switch and we can have THE Jesus Montero!
Matt Adams is a beast
Welcome back Mr. Adams. Like you were never out. 2 for 5 with both extra base hits (2B, HR). Another shot was deepest part of Hammons field, and only 5-10 feet short.
Yes, Adams doesn’t even skip a beat after being out for like 3 weeks. Time to call him up to AAA!
Adams and Castellanos is quite a duo in the middle of that lineup. Can anyone think of other dynamic duo’s currently in the minors that are putting up the slash line that these 2 are? I am sure there are plenty others but thought it would be a good topic.
They’re not even the best in their league. They have 1.087 and .941 OPS in 453 AB while San Antonio has two guys with 1.052 and 1.007 with over 50 AB more and have a 3rd guy not too far off right just behind Castellanos in OPS and a 4th just behind him or 4 of the Texas League Top 11 OPS’
How good of a trade chip is Adams?
He has much more value as 1B insurance than as a trade chip right now.
He’ll be trade bait if Pujols is resigned. If so, and Adams rakes in AAA, then Adams should have very good value as a 1B prospect.
I see that Oscar Taveras was out of the lineup again at QC. What’s going on (this time)?

Re: Matt Adams, glancing around at the teams NOT plausibly vying for a playoff spot, the need for a 1B/DH is fairly limited, so I’m not sure Matt has as much trade value as his hitting talent warrants. Also, if he really is an elite average/power prospect, don’t the Cards almost *have* to keep him as insurance against Albert’s departure (or decline)?
On a related note, I remember reading that the Redbird organization has serious conditioning plans for Adams during the next off-season, so might they be thinking about a shift to LF for the big man, with Holliday sliding over to Right? Or maybe even making Adams a sort of gigantic utility guy who can fill in at corner outfield, first base…and catcher—which he played quite a bit in college, I believe.
By the way, Adams is now slugging over .800 since the end of April. Ruthian!
Adams cannot play the outfield. I really do not think his body is as bad as some say it is, but he has too much upper body mass and is too slow to play the OF.
Adams has far more value as being kept as Pujols insurance than as trade bait. Adams just hit the 200 AB mark and should get called up soon to AAA. Who knows? They may call Adams up in a few weeks to the bigs. Unlikely, but possible. If he does well, then you know he’s an option and if you resign Pujols, Adams turns into a good trade chip. If he does poorly, then you have a better picture of what your options outside of Pujols is perhaps.
I am surprised no one has commented on Jordan Swagerty’s performance. That is very heartening to see such dominance. He’s looked like a real keeper and glad to see his star rising more and more.
even with Wong in the fold, anyone notice that Danny Stienstra, 6ft 3, 200 lb 1b, is playing 2nd base in our system? seems the TLR method of finding middle infielders is gravitating to the lower clubs.
Spot-on about Swagerty, JB. Five hits allowed, all singles. Eight K’s, zero BB’s, and a 5-0 groundout/flyout ratio. Sure, it’s just Pitcher’s Paradise Palm Beach, but the S & S boys (Swagerty and Siegrist) are doing great at age-appropriate 21. (I love that when Swagerty was faced with 2nd and 3rd, one out, he fanned the next two hitters.)
Carlos Martinez? Three hits, also all singles, more strikeouts than innings–again–and twice as many groundouts as air outs. (In fact, given his excellent GB/FB ratio in combo with his other skills/performances, you could easily make the argument that Martinez is ahead of where Shelby M. was 12 months ago…which is REALLY sayin’ something.)
On a non-pitching note, 16-year-old shortstop Leobaldo Pina is holding his own in the DSL so far, with a line of .266/.351/.281, a solid 8/12 BB/K ratio, and 4-for-4 swiping bases. No power, obviously, but for a 6′ 2″ stringbean he’s doing just fine (twice as many DP’s as errors, too). He’s one to keep an eye on. ;)
Miller, Martinez, Rosenthal, Swagerty, and Siegrist…man the future of Cardinals pitching is bright!
That’s not even including the likes of Gast, Jenkins, and Cleto either.
