“The Slippery Slugger”?
The organization is ethically obliged to promote the guy, at this point, right? Seriously, if sports is the last (i.e. only) true meritocracy, this man *must* be challenged with a AAA posting. Home, road, lefties, righties, Mr. Adams is moiderin’ everybody, all the time….so get him to Memphis!
OK, Slippery Slugger ain’t the finest nickname—how about “Rock Adams”?
Unrelated: Rosie gave up four hits, exclusively one-base knocks. That is all. :)
My guess is that it depends on whether Hamilton is in the majors for good. If he becomes a permanent bench fixture for the Cardinals, they’ll move Adams up. Otherwise they’ll wind up with a logjam at 1B in Memphis.
BTW, I think we can confidently say that Kolten Wong was signed now.
-It was announced by Jim Callis on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/jimcallisBA/status/84752515031248896)
-It was updated on the Baseball America list of signed Cardinals prospects (http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/2011xteam.php?team=1019)
-Jeff Luhnow retweeted a comment thanking him and the Cardinals for making Kolten Wong’s day special (http://twitter.com/#!/David_Matranga/status/84838904401891328)
-And, finally, here is a tweeted pic of Kolten Wong with Luhnow and MoZ.(http://twitpic.com/5gvtl2)
Has anyone else noticed, or become concerned that all of the Cardinals batting prospects are left handed?
Left handed:
Cox, Wong, Adams, Taveras, Carpenter, DJ Tools, Chambers, B. Anderson, Stock
Right handed: Pham, Jackson, Kozma, Tuivalala, Vasquez
Maybe it doesn’t matter much, but one group is clearly stronger than the other.
Really nice game by Maness – 9 GB outs and 6 K’s in 5 innings – can’t ask for much more.
I like Smash Adams. It’s simple and to the point. Gotta like that .447 wOBA. And if you look at his babip, it’s high but it has been at every level in the minors. That means he is line-driving the crap out of the ball correct?
His fellow teammates call him Patch.
But I like Smash Adams.
I say give the kid a chance. I don’t care what they do with Hamilton, Smash has earned a chance at AAA pitching.
I like Smash Adams too. No offense, but baseball players aren’t known for being creative thinkers.
How ’bout we don’t try to make up a nickname for Adams.
You are right. He deserves to be called by his given name. So I’m sticking with Matt Adams. LET’S GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!!!!
Phat Matt
Matt the Bat
Your 2012 starting 1B? …. sigh.
Kozma and Brown demoted to maKe room for Freese and Punto. they should have kept Brown to dh against lefties this week and cut the pitching staff back to 12. The list of righty hitters should include Hill, Castellanos and Conley.
Why not just “Bat Adams”? Too simple?
I like Grizzly Adams, but Moby Adams, the Great White Whale, would also work.
Nice to see Rosenthal back and effective. What caused the missed start?
Did he miss a start? Wasn’t the MWL all-star game right in the middle of that stretch?
Thanks. I’d forgotten about that. Mind isn’t exactly on baseball at the moment, as we’re under threat of evacuation because of an approaching forest fire. Seriously.
Cousin Hit.
You know, as in the Adams Family.
Thats actually very clever and funny.
The Tulsa Drillers pitching coach referred to Matt Adams as Bam-Bam, after he had hit two home runs the day before.
*Earlier in the season
I love Mr. Adam. Never got to see him play at PB only one time in Spring Training and wow. He is putting up the numbers. I don’t understand why everyone continues to underrated him. He should be in our top 5 prospect and definitely above Cox. I read what people write on who they consider top 50 for Cardinal Nation. Forgive me but you need to re-write you’re picks. Adam is outstanding. Everyone has there opinion but Hill, Adam, Castellanos, are all above in my opinion over Niko, Pham, & even Cox. Don’t get me wrong, I like those guys but prospect should not be based upon who signed for the most money but who performs the best. Next to Shelby, Martinez, Swaugerty I say should be Adam. We need to stop under rating these kids they have proven they have what it takes. I also say the same about Chambers, Scruggs, Tavares.
Lastly, I might not be an expert in a lot but why are we over tweaking players in changing there batting style when they have batted well before. I was wondering why Castellanos hasn’t hit for extra base lately and there was a story and interview that there adjusting his swing. I know coaches knows best but Just curious.? I see him as a Major Leaguer Bastista.
I’m with you Brian. Been there all along.
“Everyone has there opinion but Hill, Adam, Castellanos, are all above in my opinion over Niko, Pham, & even Cox. Don’t get me wrong, I like those guys but prospect should not be based upon who signed for the most money but who performs the best.”
Out of these guys, arguably Pham has performed the best (until his injury, which I would agree knocks a bit of value off him). People forget that he’s a CF with a good glove and decent arm – those sort of guys are way more valuable than 1B/DH types like Hill and Adams if they can hit a lick.
FWIW I’m not a Niko or Cox fan, though (although I still rate Cox in our top 3 position prospects).

@grunt. I think Rosie’s break was do to the all-star break. Which he started, by the way
Correct. All-star break was four days. He pitched one inning – three up, three down, 1 SO
No other place to put this but Carlos Martinez was promoted to PB today. Personally I think this is a bit quick since he has only been stateside for 8 starts…but it certainly is exciting the Cards feel he wasn’t getting challenged enough in QC. Grats Carlos!
Look at his numbers. He was absolutely dominating. A .196 opponents batting average, 2.21 GO/AO, 3.57 K/BB, and 11.78. Unless there is significant issues with his mechanics, arm slot, etc., this promotion to High A is much needed. FWIW, Julio Teheran made his High A debut at the age of 19, but he had been stateside for two more years. He’s pretty advanced IMO.
fat adams
Funny… Grunt and go birds. You can insult a player but you don’t like it when someone insults you. Really? Sounds like you have some axe to grind with Matt Adams. This site is a joke because of guys like you.
What’s insulting about Moby Adams? Destroys everything in his path, a subject of obsessive pursuit by Future Redbirds people. _Honi soit qui mal y pense_, and I refer you to the terms of use for this board.
Ah. I thought you were referring to his penchant for MOR electronica featuring copious blues and gospel samples.
Save it! You didn’t mean it that way and you know it! Great White Whale? C’mon! And the go birds comment “fat Adams”? Man up! Like I said this site is a joke because of guys like you!
