Thanks to AZ for covering for the coverer during my airplane nightmare yesterday (never fly US Air – that’s my recommendation), but at last I’m home, but luggage-less to cover tonight’s DFR. What’s up, people?
Let’s party rock the DFR tonight.
Archive for July, 2011Jeff is trapped somewhere by airlines so I’m doing another late DFR this weekend. I’ll have more on the Alex Castellanos trade on Monday but suffice to say that Castellanos was not a critical component of our farm system. Happy Shelby Day! Update: Forgot to mention that I’ll be in section 6, row L, seat 6 at tonight’s QC game. Had a nice night at the ballgame yesterday. Trevor Rosenthal was very impressive. More on him next week. Also, Kolten Wong does a back flip when entering the field. bgh claims that it is not as impressive as the Ozzie Smith flips of yore but the children surrounding me when crazy for it. I’m on the road as of the time of this posting. I’ll be taking in a weekend’s worth of games at Quad Cities to get a good look at Trevor Rosenthal, Boone Whiting, Oscar Taveras, Kolten Wong and the rest of the Quad Cities roster. As I was doing some research for my Sunday VEB post, I came across this four year old interview with Jeff Luhnow that Derrick Goold did. It was right after the 2007 draft (which is part of what I’m writing about for Sunday) and I’d forgotten that Jeff Luhnow threw out a Nomar Garciaparra comp for Pete Kozma. Good times. The whole thing is worth a read. (PS – I can’t believe I’ve been writing about the minors for four years now.) We’re going to be hit or miss this weekend with Daily Farm Reports as three of us (t7rick, Jeff and myself) are all traveling currently. Please be forgiving if the DFRs aren’t quite on time. If you’re at the Quad Cities games, stop bye and say hello. I’ll try and post seat #s but I’ll be hoping to sit behind homeplate for Trevor Rosenthal’s start tonight. I’m easily identifiable by the little black notebook I carry with me at all times (alternately, I’ll be wearing a bright yellow polo tonight). I’ll get a good look at a top starting pitching prospect in the Cardinals minor league system tonight at Quad Cities. Another key prospect takes the mound for Johnson City. Seven games of prospect fun! On to the DFR!

A Loosely Grouped Essay on Intl Markets and Market InefficiencyPosted by Jeff in International signings, July 2 intn'l signing periodThere has been something which has been bouncing around my mind for a few weeks and I wanted to see if I could put the proverbial pen to paper and post it for the site as it involves the player development pipeline for the Cardinals. International free agency is a market which has already shaped the face of Major League Baseball and will shape the face even more of baeball for the next century or so and it is something that the Cardinals should be making plans about to get ahead of their peers. The Dominican Summer League is even more of a exhibition league than the Gulf Coast League and the players are usually just as young, if not younger. In this league you will generally find players who have yet to get their work visa for the US or have just signed from Venezuela or the DR. Let’s get familiar with a few of the players who are playing well in the DSL. |
