1.5 million isn’t completely unreasonable, but I’m not sure I’d give that to him. I’d probably push for closer to 1.25 million if not 1 million. I like him, I just don’t love him.

It’s not a demotion, it’s to conserve his arm and reduce his innings. Swagerty was not a starter in college – can’t just have him throw 180 innings this year.

Sad to see Swagerty move to the bullpen. I don’t understand the idea to mess with someone who is excelling as a starting pitcher.

It’s like limiting his potential without good cause.

If the Cards can get that 2nd rd pick back next year, I hope they dont sign him. Seems to project more as a scrappy type player. No power, no arm…not worth going too far over slot. Put the money into Latin America instead.

The 2 local STL pitchers are Brett Graves (Mizzou commitment) and David Schmidt (Stanford commitment) and both will be tough signs from what I am hearing. The consensus is Schmidt is the tougher sign as its almost guaranteed he is going to Stanford. With Graves we have a slightly better chance but it still would not be a surprise if he doesn’t sign as well. Here is an good article to reach about both of them.

Yes, I think it’s prudent given that he was a reliever in college. Can’t just jump to 180 innings.
