    Did they push back Martinez?

    • azruavatar says:

You’re right. Martinez is almost certainly starting one of those games. I had it in my head that they actually got yesterday’s game underway before the rain but that wasn’t the case.

Martinez and miller on the sma night, exciting

  3. BigRob says:

Doesn’t look like Walters will be making the start for Memphis…

Looks like Miller and Martinez were named to the Baseball America Midseason Top 50 list: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2011/07/midseason-top-50-prospects-list/

Just saw that. Exciting to have 2 such highly regarded prospects. What do we think the chances of a 3rd cracking BA’s top 100 are next year (Cox, Adams, Wong, other)?

      • BigRob says:

I’m hoping Taveras can have a good second half and crack the list.

        • Felonius_Monk says:

I agree. I think Taveras is the closest to that list. It’s hard to see Cox making it without massively turning things around in SF, and quite a lot of people were down on him before this year anyhow. Josh Vitters, anyone?

Cleto and Rosenthal both have the upside to be long-shots if they finish strongly and someone like them. Really, though, the difference in quality between the 50th-100th best prospects and guys right up into the 200 and even 300-range is probably not that huge. The majority of stars are going to be top-50 guys at some point in their careers.

When was the last time the Cards had 2 prospects in the top 20 in baseball? It’s been a long time.

It’s hard not to get too excited about these guys but I just love seeing their results. My sincere fear is that La Russa will want Miller called up to pitch in relief this August and September at the potential expense of his long term success.

Holy f’in s”’ Cmart at 18 is even higher than I’d project…. thanks for the post Hugo

    • Felonius_Monk says:

That list looks REALLY pitching-heavy to me. Hard to believe that 5 of the top 10 prospects (and 8 of the top 14!!!!) in baseball are starting pitchers. In fact, I simply don’t believe it. Guys like Jennings and Hicks should be higher than some of these guys IMO.

Carlos Martinez strikes out the side in the top of the first. All 3 were swinging.

    • bubby says:

The Palm Beach offense gets Martinez a little cushion to work with 2-0 after 1

      • bubby says:

Groundout to 1st,groundout to third, double, groundout to second no damage for Martinez
Bradentons announcer is really talkin up carlos’s fastball and his poise for only being 19 says seeing it on tape is one thing but seeing it live is a whole different story of how good it is.

        • bubby says:

A single and error on the second baseman puts the leadoff man on 2nd,popout to 2nd for the first out,Wild Pitch for Martinez sends the runner to third, rbi single makes it 2-1 Palm Beach, lineout to RF for the 2nd out, double to left runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2outs,grounout to first for the third out. Carlos was a little wild that inning going deep in the count a few times.

I’m not sure if this is the best place to post, but this was a nice radio interview with John Mozeliak from this afternoon. He talks briefly at the end about the club’s player development philosophy and more specifically about their long-term plans for Jordan Swagerty.
