I’m not sold on Freeman as being near ready. His peripherals weren’t overly strong even before his recent melt down and I’ve heard his velocity is still down from what it was pre-surgery. A more consistent Greenwood may end up being better than Freeman due to his lefty splits and groundball rates.

I think one of those spots should almost be reserved for Freeman if he is able to get enough work in this year.

21-year-old with underwhelming stuff and underwhelming results in high-A ball? Not convinced, personally. His minor league FIP is in the 4′s and he can’t strike anybody out.

Siegrist looks like a pretty perfect example of the sort of guy who runs out of strikeouts as he moves up the ladder. I don’t see him even making the majors, personally.

I wonder if it’s not crazy to think that either Gast or Additon (who must be the 2nd best lefty in the system, surely? At least in the high minors) gets a shot as the 2nd lefty out of the pen next year. Not sure how either of them do in terms of lefty-righty splits (presumably, you want a guy who can strike out lefties at a very good rate to do that job), but I’m not convinced that either of them will be worth a spot at the back end of a contending rotation, so maybe the bullpen would be a good place for them to make an impact in an organisation that’s basically bereft of any LHRP talent. In Gast’s case, I guess if he succeeds in that role, it could be the chance to audition for an eventual spot in the rotation, as and when necessary. His work at AA so far has been impressive.

He needs to get back on track. Despite a decent ERA at PB, his FIP is over 4.50 and his last 3 starts have been pretty poor.

I’d say Additon has been pretty much as good as Gast results wise. Can’t speak for their stuff.

Hernandez and Siegrist are 2 names to consider for sure. I am a huge Hernandez fan but he has a ways to go before we will know for sure what we are getting with him. But his ceiling is definitely attractive. I am not as high on Siegrist as a prospect…but he is putting together a solid season.

Hector Hernandez…no where near the same level yet. I think they might have similar ceilings. Personally I like Gast better because I think he actually might be able to start in the majors. Hernandez strikes me as having a long career as a LOOGY.
