3 serviceable pitchers for Colby. I admit I don't totally understand the addition of Patterson...although we finally have a player who can steal bases. 2011 Colby doesn't seem to be a huge loss. Not sure about 2012-14 Colby.

I didn't think we had a chance this year with our rotation and bullpen and kinda feel like we do now. Colby was something of a distraction so it will be interesting to see how the chemistry changes.

How in the world do we get such a minimal return for Rasmus? I always liked TLR and still believe he is better manager than 90% of the league. But he needs a strong-willed GM in charge of him. Otherwise, you get this. Just like every other player he has fallen out of love with, we get minimal return after he trashes the guy in the media. Nice Job Mo...wait to let someone else dictate how to do your job. Morons. Not a single prospect. Outside of a lefty RELIEVER...we got nothing of value after this year. Those who understand value in MLB are going to kill them for this deal. I fully welcome Keith Law's analysis on this. I should never feel like I can do a better job at running the cardinals than those who run the team. Right now I feel like I can do a better job than the highly paid management. Awful.

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/cardinal-beat/article_0f7b1b4c-b86e-11e0-86d2-0019bb30f31a.html

I believe this is the most disappointed I have been in the Cardinals Management in a long time. As we have seen in the past, if TLR doesn't like the player then management is more than happy to send the player away with no regard to the upside that player presents. With this in mind, I am extremely disappointed with the return they are receiving for an above-average talent like Rasmus. It seem that I am constantly reminded that I must not let myself get invested in prospects because even if they make the major league roster this is still a high probability that they have not passed TLR's test yet. (It saddens me to find out that they were discussing an extension with Rasmus prior to TLR complaining about him earlier this month).

The advertised deal would have its advantages. At least Walters wouldn't be available to "help" the team like he did Monday night. Same goes for Miller and Tallet too. Addition by subtraction is not a bad thing.

The way I see it they leave him at Springfield for the rest of the year. He's obviously got the league figured out, and should continue to mash. During the offseason, if we fail to sign Pujols, Adams becomes our primary 1B prospect, starting the year at Memphis and perhaps getting called up during the season. If we sign Pujols, we make it a priority to trade Adams during the offseason, as I believe his value will never be higher (at least while he's with the Cardinals in the minor leagues). Obviously a good destination would be an AL club looking for a powerful young DH. Either we package him with others as part of a large trade, or we swap him for a MIF prospect or perhaps young RP of similar value.

I think that by moving him to Memphis now we're taking the risk that he struggles (even if he doesn't it's very unlikely he continues his current output) thereby hurting his trade value over the offseason.
