Anyone else praying that Martinez bounces back after that last outing…..

Solid effort by CMart tonight. Walked a few more than you want to see and he hit a batter and had a WP but 2 hits and 1ER over 6 is a solid effort.

I was at the game. Sat right behind the plate. First time to see Martinez in person. Like you mention, he had some trouble locating his fastball particularly in the first inning. Walked the first batter on four straight and then gave up a triple into the right field corner. After that he settled down, and stranded the runner at third. His fastball touched 99 mph a couple of times but mostly he was throwing between 94 – 97. He did hit 98 in his last inning of work. Now, I would like to talk about his breaking ball. IT IS NASTY! He appears to have good command and I believe he should throw it more particularly early in the count. If this guy can stay healthy, he will be an all star for years to come.

Thanks for the 1st hand report…that is what I love most about this site! I saw CMart when QC played at Busch in late May…he was nervous and only had 3-4 starts stateside at that point so his control was iffy but when he was on his stuff was crazy good. His breaking ball has improves by leaps and bounds as the year has gone along from what I am hearing. That is the big reason why he is flying up prospect rankings. Plus Plus FB with a Plus breaking ball and potential Plus CH is the recipe for dominance!

Martinez has the stuff. Its the mental side now and we will see if he over comes that last start..I’m looking for the bounce back. Yes, i’m praying, typing from my knees…….sp

Bittle released today. And for those that gave me crap last week when I said Bittle was a pipe dream with all but no chance at this point…..apology accepted.

That sucks he did have a bad last outing in Batavia. Wonder if they gave up on his arm ever recovering or if he blew it out again.

    • JC says:

Way to pat yourself on the back! I am surprised we just released him after 6 whole games. Seems premature to not at least give him 12-15 games to see what happens. But it is what it is.

Awwwww :-(. He was one of my pet prospects for a long while.

Random observation: I just saw that MLB.com has Seth Blair ranked as our 5th best prospect. Best to not put too much stock into MLB.com prospect rankings I suppose. For the record they have Shelby as the 6th best prospect overall and Martinez at 31. They have Cox as our 3rd best prospect and call him the 7th best 3B prospect overall.

No Wong though, so maybe this list is outdated.

    • HogwildCard says:

Yeah that list was posted before the year started and I don’t believe it gets updated.

      • GTL says:

I just wasn’t sure because the writeups of each player reflect what they’ve done so far this year (i.e. Carlos Martinez had a quick promotion to PB). I guess they just don’t update the rankings.

Actually, I’m somewhat surprised they had Shelby Miller as high as 6th. Before the season I thought most prospect lists had him around 20 or so (obviously this year he’s earned his spot near the top of lists).

  5. GTL says:

Nice outing for Martinez tonight. 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 K, 3 BB and only 2 H. Nice to see him get right back on the horse after a bad outing last time.
