Archive for July, 2011No words to describe what the organization did to it’s best homegrown position player of the last 10 years. On to the DFR! I don’t really have words for this right now. Needless to say, the first instinct is that this is a very bad trade driven by the manager’s and player’s personalities. In much the same way that the Brendan Ryan trade was ill-advised, this one seems so as well. The package that the Cardinals got back will hinge on Marc Rzepczynski and whether he can be a starter long term. Cardinals trade: Cardinals receive: Please watch your language in the comments and avoid personal attacks. I don’t want to have to play the heavy right now. The Cardinals will put more lefties on the mound to start today than right handers — wonder how often that happens? The farm went a perfect 4-0, while Carlos Martinez got the start for Palm Beach. Am I the only one who likes that Miller and Martinez start on consecutive days? Both of them starting on the same day felt like top prospect overload.

Maikel Cleto Still Adjusting to MemphisPosted by azruavatar in Maikel Cleto, tags: Maikel CletoCardinals’ fans surely miss Brendan Ryan’s defense at shortstop right now. Brendan Ryan probably misses winning ballgames in the midst of a 16 game losing streak in Seattle. The Cardinals return on that trade has been surprisingly good though as Maikel Cleto has played his way from Palm Beach through Springfield to Memphis. After making his sixth start in Memphis last night, there’s probably some work to be done. The farm went 2-4 on the night, as Shelby Miller made a start. Check out how he did below! With Joe Strauss giving public voice to rumors about a possible trade with the White Sox, it might be instructive to take a glance at the White Sox’s farm system. While the rumors seem to be centered around the major league components including Edwin Jackson (2011 salary: $8.35M) and/or Matt Thornton (2011-2013: $3M, $5.5M, $5.5M; 2014 club option: $6M w/ $1M buyout), the Cardinals would be unlikely to move Colby Rasmus with three cost controlled years remaining for a rental pitcher or a reliever. So the expectation should be that the Cardinals acquire at least one prospect as well. It’s difficult to assess who exactly the Cardinals might target from the White Sox farm system but what follows is an outsider’s view of the top prospects. Johnson City provided the only win as the system put up a cumulative record of 1-5 on the night. On to the DFR… |
